  1. If I were you I would stay where you are. You are in a nursing program that will end with a degree. There is no guarantee that you will get in a BSN program.Due to a nursing educator shortage, spaces are often limited at various programs. I would stay where you are and work towards your goal.
  2. Thank you for the reply CritterLover. I really appreciate it.
  3. I have just been travel nursing in Nebraska. I haven’t transitioned to a hospital yet.
  4. Has anyone successfully transitioned from adults to a NICU? If so, what pointers can you give to make me an outstanding applicant? I am an adult PCU nurse ( with four years of experience) who has worked in Level II PCUs, LTAC, and corrections. I am interested in a Transition to Pediatric Nursing program that is offered by the local children's hospital. This hospital has a level IV NICU ( which happens to be the only one in the state).

  6. Wow time flies. So much has happened since I wrote this article. I am about to hit my four year mark as a RN in Sept. Have completed several travel contracts over the past year and half. Working hard on doing a few more months of contracts and then want to transition into peds ( hopefully the NICU).
  7. I'm moving to the area and I just want info. What is the starting pay for an Rn at children's medical? And all the other hospitals in the Omaha area? I have 2 years adult PCU experience however I plan on transitioning to pediatrics.
  8. I'm presently a RN on an adult PCU. I commonly see Post op CABGs ( after extubation), vasoactive drips, stable home vented patients and all the other things that come with being on a stepdown unit. However, my fiancé and I are moving and I'm seriously considering going into pediatrics. I went to nursing school thinking I wanted to do peds. However, after graduation I didn't feel like that was my calling. I'm now at the point where I realize I don't love my job anymore. I want a change. I want to do NICU ( 1st) or PICU. I'm looking into the transition to pediatric nursing program at Children's Medical Center in Omaha. Anyone have any advice? Has anybody made the switch? If so how was it. Even if I get a peds job I still plan on working prn on an adult pcu unit in order to keep skills current.

  10. I graduated from the program last May. For the summer, don't do any reading or prep. Enjoy the summer off. It's going to be an intense 21 months. Just enjoy the time off. Any other questions ?
  11. I failed the NCLEX-RN the first time in June. I used Saunders and Kaplan. I did not study as well as I could have and spent a lot of time simply learning content. After failing I was told to use the NCSBN review. However, I did not like it and I thought it was much to content dense. I decided to use Uworld alone. I cannot say enough about this program. The questions look exactly like the NCLEX setup. The questions are mostly priority based which are higher level questions. I did questions all the time. There is an app and I literally was doing questions during any spare minute. The rationales are succinct and very helpful. When I sat for the NCLEX, I remembered some rationales and this became very useful. I passed in 75 questions on 9/14 and I finished the exam in less than 90 minutes. I would also use the free 35 page study guide that is floating around on this site. Just do questions and commit to completing a certain amount each day. The Uworld questions have a higher difficulty than NCLEX questions in my opinion. The next time you will pass.
  12. Congrats!!! Even though you did not accept the position at Roper, what floors gave you offers? Could you also explain the new grad pipeline to me please? I am assuming of course that you received more info than is posted on the Roper website.
  13. How was the interview at Roper?
  14. It really depends on the market and where you want to work. The majority of my class all received new grad job offers. I went to an accelerated direct entry MSN-CNL program in MO. I received 3 offers for new grad positions in SC. I accepted an offer in the stepdown unit It really depends on the market you are aiming for. However, I am from the NYC area and the market over there can be beyond brutal. Some areas do hire ADNs but it just depends where you are living.
  15. I'm graduating from the program this week. If you have any questions send me a PM.
  16. Thanks for asking this question. I'm going to be a new grad starting in the PCU as well. I am definitely going to purchase the above mentioned books.
  17. Yep nuke. Good luck with your interviews. Hope you get the position.
  18. Finally a reply. Yeah I'm in the process of graduating from a CNL program. Only 2 more weeks to go. He's Navy. Is your spouse Navy or Air Force? Good of luck with your interview. Do you have an interview in the ICU or the TCU/LTAC portion? I saw those positions online but I thought I wasn't qualified.
  19. Happy to hear that. Good luck with the choice. Let me know where you end up. If you go to SLU, I can email you review sheets.
  20. I sent you a private message. The reply became super lengthy. Hope it answers some of your concerns.
  21. Congrats. I just sent you a message.
  22. Congrats!!! I'm graduating in a few weeks and I hope to eventually end up in the ICU as well. But I accepted a position in a PCU. Hopefully, I'll end up in an ICU before one year of practice is complete as well. Good luck!
  23. just bumping. hoping for replies
  24. I'm going to be living in Moncks Corner. I've applied to several new grad positions ( at least 8 at MUSC) but these are the only hospitals to respond. I'm willing to drive the hr for the sake of gaining experience.
  25. A goal of mine it be an acute care/ICU travel nurse. As a future military spouse I would rather start this sooner rather than later while my partner is stationed in the area for the next two years. I would love to start in an LTAC facility. Does Vibra hire new graduates? If the answer is yes, are new grads hired into working in the areas with the highest acuity patients? How is the orientation process? Do you feel that you as a new grad received all the support that was needed?
