  1. DachRN posted a topic in General Nursing
Anyone ever been told "unable, not allowed to be in a room with formalin present"? Co-worker RN refused to place specimen in a container of formalin that had a cover due to "toxic fumes that may escape & cause a reaction" Requested specimen be taken to a department with air hood to open container & put specimen in? (I was thinking, how did they attend anatomy lab & dissection for four hours 3x a week where formalin was everywhere?) Just wondering?
  2. Come to NW MT and interview to work in MT Hospitals ER! [email protected]
  3. Can come work in MT with me, I NEED 3 ER RN's now and a Critical Care Nurse.....no one wants to re-locate to a smaller Hospital but OUR place IS GREAT!!!!
  4. Not really SAFE or cool.....RN's should be speaking with managers about THAT ratio!! EVERYWHERE I have worked, RN's administering Chemo could not do so with more than 2 patients at a time and usually only had 3 patients TOTAL! (Miss,AK,Co,Ca)
  5. Same in Anchorage,AK
  6. PPE

DachRN replied to mappers's topic in Oncology
I HOPE you attended a Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Course AND YOUR facility is telling you WHAT PPE to wear!!!!
  7. Phenergan has to be mixed in a bag of Normal Saline, hung as Piggy Back, not pushed IV push anymore due to caustic nature of med to vein....Believe that was enacted Jan 2011 across USA. NEVER push IV meds above a pump, EVER! Push IV meds port closest to patients, if slow IV, push flush behind med. HOPE that helps.
  8. Debbie, Can you pls forward me a PRIVATE email @ McKesson and Nursing Infomatics?? I am in NW USA and want MORE info @ these asap. Thanks, Pamela [email protected]
  9. We CAN'T say NO here.............reason they don't go to Urgent Care or Clinic is they are MADE to pay $45 up-front. ER cannot force payment up-front...so we have to deal with "emergency rashes, tooth pain, earaches, paper cuts etc" STINKS!
  10. REALLY..........right next to the EMTALA sign that says you have a right to be seen in an "Emergency"
  11. That's close to my winner................did you do lancing of the pimple?!
  12. ER Nurses/MD's etc. I am currently writing a "paper" on stupidest reason for someone to come to ER. ANY input you can send me would be much appreciated. IF you'd like a copy of the FINAL draft, let me know. THANKS in advance! PS. My winning entry so far is: A woman who brought 1 month old baby in at 2:30 (AM of course) because "it won't look me in the eye, It doesn't recognize me!" Not kidding
  13. ATTN ER Staff! I am writing a "paper" on the dumbest reasons/stories that people show up/come to ER. Would appreciate ANY input ANY of the ER staff out there has for me.........................IF you'd like a copy of the FINAL draft, please let me know and I'll forward it. Thanks much! PS. My winning entry so far is a Mom who brought 1 month old infant in at 2:30 AM because "it wouldn't look her in the eye. It doesn't recognize me!" Not making this up
  14. Homer is great but not a lot of job openings there, Sitka Island is nice but you have to fly to Anchorage to leave to lower 48 and there is a new Hospital in the Valley NE of Anchorage about 65 miles.............supposed to be nice and much cheaper to live than ANchorage................hope that helps
  15. I have a better one................working ER in Central Valley CA, woman came in at 230 AM with a 2 month old baby and said at the window "my baby doesn't recognize me, she's not looking at me enough"............this is a no sh**er.................I think the whole ER staff had blank stares (4 of us plus MD)
