  1. Yay or nay? People tell me they didn't even use all the algebra pre-req's in their stats class. But the teachers say it's a big deal. My algebra is old, but I do remember it. It's the ti-89 calculator that scares me. If anyone has experiences to sha...
  2. Advice for new CNA in LTC?

Hi, I applied for a cna job while I wait 5 months for nursing school to start, and I'm pretty sure I'll be offered the job. Just wondering if you have any advice or survival suggestions for me? I did some cna clinical time there so I realize it wil...
  3. Wild Color Stethoscope?

Do you think, if I buy a fun colored stethoscope like pink or orange, people won't take me seriously?
  4. Is this true about Linfield?

I've read here, and heard from others, that Linfield has more of a community health emphasis. And that their graduates get shortchanged on hospital clinical time, leaving them feeling unprepared. Everyone who goes there seems to love it so I have a...
  5. I know most people want to know how soon you can take it after graduation, and I imagine you wouldn't want to wait too long or you would forget material. But do people ever wait, say 3-4 months before taking it? Would that be a bad idea? I have re...
  6. CCC A & P teachers - anyone had Watson or Kop?

Tejon, You got it: Good Luck! I'm pretty sure you're going to be happy with him. He's a very kind & patient person, and is good at explaining things with cartoony analogies where he attributes human personalities to molecules and body parts to ...
  7. CCC A & P teachers - anyone had Watson or Kop?

Watson: Is he a rockstar of an a&p teacher? I don't know. But I took him for another science class, got an A, and enjoyed his personality a lot. When his lectures wandered into a&p type topics, I could tell he knew a lot about it. If it were ...
  8. Blood type...HELP!

Two B's can have an O if they're both heterozygous. But what blood type was the mailman? :) Tofutti
  9. Nervously declined

JB, I did that for awhile too--sat on 2 acceptance letters to think it over. Because what if I chose one school and then, say, a meteor landed on it? And I had no option b? Congrats on getting in and having choices! Tofutti
  10. So Confused! Programs hard to get into

OHSU also offers an accelerated BSN. The odds of getting into PCC are slim. Personally, I'm afraid of the implications of the word "accelerated" for my health and happiness. But many do it!
  11. UP Providence Scholarship

Still stalking mailman...I think if I actually got the prov scholarship I would take it. But it makes me feel better to say I don't want it. Coping mechanism ya know? :monkeydance: tofutti
  12. UP Providence Scholarship

Hi Evan, Were you able to get a facility and department that you wanted for your new grad job? That's my biggest concern. Hi Kris, I agree with you, I don't know how they'll decide which 20 get it, since all 60 looked good from what I could tell. ...

  14. UP Providence Scholarship

Hi Kris, I'm waiting on that letter too. I'm still on the fence over whether I would take them up on it though, because of the strings attached. The students I saw on interview day seemed like a top notch group. Professional, friendly, polished. ...
  15. wedding rings at work

Hi All, I'm just curious if nurses even wear their wedding rings at work. Does it get in the way when you put gloves on, or get full of soap and lotion gunk? Scratch people? Do you wish you had a different style that worked better? Just curious what...
  16. Advice from Last Year Nursing Student

I'm a new student, just got my Potter & Perry book and whoa nelly, I'm so glad I took that stinkin' chemistry. Especially when I flip ahead to the fluid and electrolyte chapter.
  17. she's ugly and has a freaking beard (i'm not kidding) and she smiles at the thought of failing students. call me juvenile, but sweetheart, you are funny! also you are twenty years old, and you're entitled to see things this way. when i picture a wh...
  18. Which would you choose, and why?

Option A: Good Quality ADN program, 1 hour away, starts asap, total cost for 2 years will be $8,000. Can complete RN-BSN after that, mostly online, for $10,000 more, while working. Option B: Good Quality BSN program, 30 minutes away, doesn't start fo...
  19. Q re: schools + NCLEX pass rate

Where I live, most schools are in the 94% and above range. BUT, and this a big but NCLEX pass rate is a statistic that actually tells you nothing. Instructors can simply weed out the weaker students and voila, 100% pass rate. If it's looked at in c...
  20. This came at a perfect time for me. I had orientation today and I feel overwhelmed and scared! :chair: Thanks.
  21. Re: Greetings from Oregon!

Hi Christy, Yes you can get student loans to cover your cost of living expenses too. The loans can be through a federal student loan program or a bank or wherever you like. Well worth it for an accelerated program, I would think! :wink2: Tofutti
  22. CiCi Girl, There is an accelerated 15 month program nearby I could have done but I was afraid I wouldn't get enough clinical time, or that my mind would be overloaded and it wouldn't have time to sink in. I went to an info meeting on it and those we...
  23. Hi CiCi Girl, One thing to consider: wouldn't the extra year at the longer program cost you $50,000 in lost income? Because if you had the RN one year sooner, you could work that year. That would equalize it out. Tofutti
  24. Statistics

I'm only two weeks into my stats class, but it's not hard! Just know the order of operations: grouping, exponents, multiply & divide, add & subtract. I have a good base of high school algebra, that's all. I haven't had college algebra in 20 ...
