What was I thinking?
Just an update: finished the class with an 84.6 final grade :). Now on to nursing leadership and management.

humidifiers
We've used a humidifier a few times, and there's a policy in the P and P "bible" for it. It's been a while so I don't remember details, but it mostly has to do with specific ways to clean it.

- What was I thinking?
Thanks for all the words of encouragement everyone!!! I really appreciate them (I'd insert the 'hugs' smiley here but it seems to have disappeared. I can't wait for the opportunity to use the 'poop' one though ). RN-Cardiac: what's PERRLA?- What was I thinking?
A brief vent questioning my sanity in returning to school for RN to BSN to MSN. It's been 13 years since I graduated with my ADN. If I complete this program in a timely fashion I'll be around 50 years old. Class only started this past Monday and I'm already stressed. Although given my first class is Applied Statistics, a class I've always dreaded, I'm not surprised I've already added to my grey hair collection. It's time though. The kids are all in school and have all agreed "it's time you put yourself first Mom". I question if my brain's ready for this. Other than keeping up with required CEs to maintain my license, there's been no formal education going on up there. Sigh. Ok, vent done. Off to study. Thanks for listening. :)- Halloween Fun
Our party was last Friday. Children/grandchildren (and occasionally great-grandchildren!) of staff and residents are invited along with various brownie troops and other kids from the community (I have no idea where our activities director found almost 100 kids this year!). Residents who want to participate get a pumpkin picture on their door and a basket of goodies to pass out (the younger short term patients tend to opt out). Then there's a party with cake. Mmmmm, cake :)- I and O's
We put new admissions on a 72 hour bowel and bladder tracking, but never I&O unless there's a reason (foley, IV, fluid restriction, etc). We don't do I&O for abx either.- Do you have family members who are nurses?
My maternal grandmother, 2 aunts, and an uncle were/are nurses. My father and I went through nursing school together, and my sister graduated from the same program a few years after we did. According to my mother, I announced my decision to become a nurse when I was 4.- Difference between a graduate nurse & a experienced nurse
Love it!! I sometimes have to scrub my arms at the end of the shift once everything I've written has been charted--horrifies the new grads/students every time Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com- Being Naked Where I Work: A Nurse With Cancer
Hugs! Should I ever be in a similar situation, I hope I can face it with even a partial amount of your strength and humor. You truly are an inspiration.- Nurses Week/Hospital Week
So far we've received...a small bag of some pretzel/chocolate snack stuff the OT department makes with the residents. There's a "Nurses' Luncheon" tomorrow so we'll see if we get anything else. One year they gave us insulated lunchbags with the corporate logo plastered all over it and a cookie with the same logo. :icon_roll- Nurses Week/Hospital Week
- How much of a raise did you get this year?
Raise? What is this raise you speak of?- FX of the "Giveadamn"
After sputtering for a couple months, mine finally broke when I was told part of corporate's solution to our low census was to cut my supervisor hours in half. Not that half on a med cart and half "free floating" is a big deal; I'd kind of been missing direct care. But if the med carts are already staffed, guess who goes home? Yuppers. 'Tis me. Wasn't too bad the first few times--"ooo, sweet! going home early!". Now it's "crap, which bills get reorganized this week?". As well as being greeted by the 6 year old with (at 8p mind you): "mommy's home!! Daddy only gave me a waffle and now I'm starving!!!! What's for supper?"- Thank you to the best staff ever!
Congrats!!!! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com- The Mockery of Nursing
Can anyone tell me how long until I'm a crusty old bat? 20 years? 30 years? Because I'm pretty sure I know it all now after 13; such as delegating all personal care to the CNAs. I want to be mean and crush the dreams of special snowflakes who are prettier and younger than me and pass the NCLEX after just 5 tries. ( I followed some breadcrumbs and couldn't resist )- The Mockery of Nursing
The combination of poor grammar, high sense of entitlement, and plain old delusions (really? failed 5 times yet it's not your fault?) is just mind boggling. Not that I'm anywhere close to perfect, but geez. Here's hoping I never need hospitalization lest I get one of those special snowflakes assigned to me.- The Mockery of Nursing
Oh my. Wandered over to the student forum for the first time (that whole "NCLEX horror" was too enticing to pass up), and promptly ran away shaking my head in disbelief. And fear.- The Mockery of Nursing
I continue to absolutely love this thread! Just what I need stuck home with pneumonia. It's even worth the coughing fits brought on by laughing so much! That said, it drives me nuts to hear in report about O2 stats and how they're alert and orientated.- The Mockery of Nursing
Oh my. Harpy Trollop? Love it! Might need to keep an eye out for those fomite encrusted ones though...- The Mockery of Nursing
"Fear the fomite"---gotta love that!- Silly random nursing thoughts, one sentence, NO JUDGMENTAL FOLKS ALLOWED
"Just lift and scrub" (thanks wooh; this might be my phrase of the day at work tonight )- Silly random nursing thoughts, one sentence, NO JUDGMENTAL FOLKS ALLOWED
You had a knee replacement, not a hand replacement; so no, I will not wipe your butt for you.:icon_roll- Socializing after work in your scrubs
I can't decide if I want to steal this: or wooh's signature: Fomite fomite bo bomite, banana fana fo fomite, me my mo momite, FOMITE! as my facebook status! Love 'em!- Admissions...who decides?
We go from screener in the hospital to our admissions coordinator. She checks out the insurance stuff. The screens are then checked out by the DNS, ADNS, or SDC. If the coordinator can't find any of them, she tracks me down. Recently, our census started circling the drain, so the screens haven't been scrutinized as much as they used to. The hospital screener told us the hospitals have been discharging to home more as opposed to sending them to rehab first. Anyone else find this to be happening? - What was I thinking?
