  1. having a very difficult time in school. not easy at all. lvn school was hard but the rn program is not fun at all.
  2. thanks to those that replied. i am really frustrated with myself. hopefully i can get through this.
  3. help. i have been an lvn for 6 yrs. and i have recently started the rn program. i am having the hardes time in school. i have just below passing average and this is really bothering me. im not used to have such low grades. even though lvn school was hard this is the worst. maybe im not understanding the way the questions are being asked. i thought that since i work in a hospital on a med-surg unit it would help. but im just not grasping the test. i know the material but when it comes to the test i just bomb. now im wanting to throw in the towel. this is very frustrating. any advice?
  4. i am currently going through the transition program. in school 3 days a week and clinicals 2 days a week. working at the hospital on fri nite and sat nite. not working working on sun nites only because of school on monday. well, not at the hospital on sunday nites. work sunday and monday nite 12 hours sitting with a elderly patient. that way i can have some study time away from home without interruption. yes i do work 12 hours on fri and sat nites at hospital. this will be this way for 4 more wks. then i will go back to fri-sun nite at hospital. and still will be sitting during the week only because school will not last all day.
  5. through excelsior is lifespan a course and test or just a test. have gone through the website and can only find where to register for the test. nothing about registering for the course. any help will do. thanks

  7. ive already sent in the info last monday through snail mail.
  8. i know i've seen it here before just couldnt find it. how long after sending in application will you rcv your eval from excelsior. i am sitting and waiting. its only been a week but i am getting antsy.
  9. my daughters doc didnt wait. once baby was out she pulled on the cord and the cord broke. so guess what, she went in up to her elbow, no lie, i was standing right there and manually extracted it. no pain medicine. OUCH!!!
  10. tell her to try the 90 degree angle. there is burning with lovenox. just remember not to rub the site since it is a form of heparin it will cause bleeding and bruising under the skin. also do not use any type of warm compress for the reasons listed above. continue to give in the belly since there is more tissue there to absorb the med. hope this helps

  21. although i work in an acute setting i work on med/surg. if pt needs cardiac drugs pushed then we have to send to cardiac floor. but like lasix just depending on how you much you are pushing you know how fast to push. at the hospital i work at, if they must have ivp bp meds then we must send to cardiac. even i've only been an lvn for 3 years i didnt have to have prereqs at the school i attended. it wasnt until after i graduated that they implemented that program. i wish i would have needed prereqs then i wouldnt be doing them now in order to go into the rn program. im envious.
  22. trying to find out if lvns can be certified in med/surg in texas. i work on a med/surg floor in an acute hospital. rns can be certified in med/surg, so why can't lvn. know of someone that is also an lvn in another city in texas and certified in oncology and can hang chemo. if anyone has any info please post.
  23. just getting a chance to read your post. i am a lvn in texas working in an acute setting hospital. take from 8-18 pts at a time. can do just about anything an rn can do. meaning, start ivs, draw blood, hang blood, draw from central lines, and picc lines. do foleys, iv push drugs. drop ngs. wound care, take verbal and phone orders, chart on patients. rns basically do the assessments and help the lvns when a patient is going bad. we do the work we just dont get the same pay. that's why starting to take prereqs for rn school. if im going to do the work then i want the same pay.
