I have several to share Don't complain about the instructor because they already have RN behind their name. Don't complain about the clinical site because you have to do your hours to get credit for the course. Suck it up and get through--take the test and get the RN behind your name

Hey don't beat yourself up, you just need to get used to the situation. We all have bad days-and good days. Focus more on the good day you want to have and hot the bad!!! Sounds better looking at it that actually living it. I feel not so smart most of the time while in nursing school.---

If attend Deaconess now--if you are a local student we have clinicals as a group. And if you are a distant learner you set up your own clinicals. I have know several students who have done this. They call the local hospitals and find out if someone is willing to be a preceptor, or if you have a friend who is a nurse you go to work with her while learning different skills. At the end of your clinical rotation you come to STL to show the instructors what you have lerned. Before clinicals the school provides you with a list of skills that need to be learned suring your rotation. I hope this information helps.

Hey ang05-- I'm currently a DCN online student. The NCLX pass rates are for the first year the online program was in effect. They have had several changes and the pass rate has increased, but the state boards arent looking at this numbers they are only looking into the older numbers Good luck with trying to get in.

Hey guys -- Thanks for all of the great comments. I just want to make sure I am doing all I can do for the patient. I know that there are going to be some great people and then there are the others. I am a team player and I want everyone else to be one, but i can't so I just do the very best job I can. I love being and aide -its almost like getting paid for doing something that you love. I once told my husband that if i had this much fun as an aide -being a NURSE would be awsome. I love knowing at the end of my day that I have done something to make a difference in someone's life. I just wished that the whole staff felt this way. I believe that some people are there just for the paychecks and this is the part that really bothers me. I would do this job for free--kidding But I do love what I'm doing which is HELPING OTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a nursing assistant at a local hospital in STL, while going to school to become a Nurse. I have but one question? Who is responsible for the Patient Care? I ask the question b/c it seens that at time the nurses are to busy or so they say to do small things to help the patients. Don't get me wrong there are RNs who really help the aides out but then there are the RNs who won't clean a patien up b/c they don't like to do that anymore. :angryfire I hate it when a male patient has a full urinal on the bedside table and the the nurse says that the aide will be in to empty it. Why cant they take 2 minutes to empty and chart it. I had a new RN,BSN come to find me a couple of days ago to tell me that a patient needed to be cleand up and that she would help me, but she need to go and call the doctor. I didn't have a problem cleaning up the patient but he was mine-I did it anyway b/c it was the right thing to do. The thing that burns me up is that this RN,BSN was at the nurses station talking with the other nurses and playing games on the computer. I thought we all were in this profession to help the the paitent who couldn't help themselves. I know that the RN have more educatuion but does there compassion go out of the window when they become RN. The question I pose to all of you is how would you like for your family members to be treated? Are we giving our patients the same kind of treatment if it were our family members? I ask all of the nursing staff to take 2 min to make the patient feel special and to clean their areas up. Lets clean the bedside table-get towels off the floors-empty urinals and hats in the bathroom--not to mention flush the toilets- :) Let all remember that we could be a patient at anytime. Would we like to be treated the same way that we treat some of these patients. Let's give more thought to the people that we are caring for and go that extra mile to make them feel welcome. These are just my thought and I felt I could share -- Let me know what you think:balloons:

I work in a loca STL hospital and I hat to hear that about aide. I have been and aide to 2 1/2 years while going to nursing school. It really bugs me when the staff this includes the nurses and aides don't work together as a team. Our primary goal is to there to help the PATIENTS!!!! We are not there for each other. I think most people forget that our mission is PATIENT CARE. I just wasnt to encourage everyone even the RN and AIDE we can all help by just doing a part to care to the PATIENT. This is the person that will benefit in the long run.

Hey Mtnmom-- Pull yourself together-you have lived another day and have a skill that will carry you a lifetime. Go in the closet have your self a good cry and hit the pavement looking for a job. You are going to find a job even better than the one that you lost and it is going to pay more with less stress-if that is possible. Have fun and enjoy your life-make tomorrow count b/c you never know if it is going to be your last. And Friday the 13th is not a bad day--just unfortunate things happen--this was my birthday and I was glad to be alive and turning 37. I and a CNA foring for RN--I would definately recomend being and aid first. I fell that this will help you with clinicals and the understanding with your patients. I feel that there are some RN that have never been aides and it shows-they don't know how to treat the aides and have not respect for them. But as and aide you will see how you want to treat the staff that works with you. I would rather have the support of the aides than not, and being one is the best way to know that not to do or say to your aides. Besides when you are and aide so of the RN will let you watch and help with certain procesures so you can get some experience. Experience and confidence are the keys to success in this business. As an aide you learn to be a team player-and you are not allowed to pass the buck. Some RN don't like to help and expect the aide to do all of the dirty work. (you know) I had a situation the other day where a patient needed to be cleaned up-but it wasn't my patient. She came to find me to ask me to clean the patient up. I didn't have a problem with this part but, she said that she was coming back to help me. When I walked out of the room to get some supplies--she was at the front desk talking with the other nurses who were on the computer shopping for clothes. Now this really ticks me off-b/c I was trying to be a team player and she just abused her authority. If she didn't want to clean the patien upo she should have said so and not pretend that she was really busy when she wasn't. This nurse has a bad habit of doing that and this is why so aides don't loke working with her. She passed the buck . Just my input.

I would say you shoul wear something that make you feel comfortable and your confidence will shine. Good luck

I work Tele-nights as a CNA and I like it. I would suggest that position b/c having a stable floor to work is better that floating all over the hospita. Besided the float CNA-RN get the crappiest assignment. And you always feel like and outsider on their floor. If you have a stable home so to speak you begin to build a bond and relationships with the people you work with. Once I graduate I have a position on my floor. They prefer to hire RN that were once NA--we have had several people to convert and they really like. They said it is nice to know how the system works. Good luck with your decision.

I have wanted t o be a nurse since I was your girl. But after shigh school I went into accounting. This was a very good job but i wasn't happy. I have several family member get sick and pass away with the last 5 years. I was there to help and realized that this is what I need to be doing. Taking care of those people that care for themselves. The thought of knowing that you have made a difference at the end of the day is a very rewarding experience. If you are going into nursing for just the money then this is not the profession for you. With this job you get emotionally attached and it means more that money at the end of the day. It is because you enjoy helping and making a difference. This is priceless

as a fellow third shift employee -- it is really hard to stay awake when you first start. But I found out that if you go to sleep around 6-7 and then get up and go straight into work you will be able to stay awake for most of the night. I also start my night with a big cup of coffe or soda-just to get that jolt going. It also helps to bring some reading material to work with. Since I'm still in school for RN I always have plenty of things to read. It takes awhile to getting used to but I know enjoy it. Afterworking a night shift i come home take a shower-eat and then go straight to bed for a couple of hours. Best of luck to you.

I worked for the largest beer manufacture in the St. Louis area before deciding to quite and persue my nursing career. I want to make a difference at the end of the day. I can actually say that I have enjoyed this a great deal. I have good days and bad days but the payoff of helping those that can't help themselves if PRICELESSS!!!!

oh my goodness- this sounds like a wonder oppurtunity-I know it seens scarey at first but once you get into it you will more than likely love it. Got for it--start 2006 off with a BANG!!! Balls to the walls and enjoy the ride.

I work on tele- and most of the time nights can be really busy and then there are times when it is like watching paint dry. The patients usually call for pain meds-help to restroom-repositioning and sometimes just to know they are not there alone. I have learned to take several books to ready to help the time go by--

Oh my goodness ladies-- This is a wealth of wonderful information and I appreciate you all in giving us some great advice and websites to visiit. I will also me starting my med-surge rotation this spring and this info helps to ease some of the fears that come along with the unknown. Thanks for the knowledge that you are willing to share.
