  1. thanks j lynn. :) i may use you as a resource from time to time. i have an interesting circumstance that may or may not be a good thing for me. my sister is an lpn also and she happens to work in the same office that i will be soon employed at. (she works for the PA there...i will be working for one of the physicians). like you, i have no real experience...i think that my main concern at this point is the telephone triage. but i think that that is something that i will pick up along the way. most offices have their own criteria, right, concerning when its best to tell pts to stay home and when its best to have them come in? thanks again for your help. mo:p
  2. hi everyone, it sounds like i will be offered a job in a physician's office next week...i have no office experience ( i have only worked in hospital settings thoughout my nursing school experience). i would love to have your advice regarding telephone triage, handling doctors/patients, anything you have to throw out there for me to consider would be great. thanks everyone for your support. NURSES RULE! mo
  3. thanks for the congratulations, everybody! :) i took my test on Fri April 21 and had my results back by Tues the 25th. I checked the Wash State Health Dept credential's search and saw that i was licensed there then, not believing that for some strange reason, I paid the $8 to see my results on the Pearson website. Good luck to you all still waiting! mo
  4. mistiblue, can't you go to the California State Board of Nursing Website (or Health Dept) to look and see if you have your license yet? that's what i did and they had my license number posted 2 days after i took the test. here is the california website: http://www.rn.ca.gov/ i don't know if it works the same in california as in washington, but i was able to type in my name and title and find my license number. you can also pay $8 to get the Pearson Quick Results on their website if you took your test through that company. good luck!
  5. can't really believe i did...i felt like a complete idiot when taking that darn test. :uhoh21: and it shut off at 85 questions, too, which is the minimum number for the Wash State test. thank God, i won't have to do that again. :balloons: good luck to all of you out there still waiting...isn't the suspense just awful? Monica Ray-LPN!
  6. thanks everyone! i will keep you posted. monica
  7. hi all, i will be taking my LPN boards in a couple of weeks. i was wondering if any of you found it difficult to find a job right out of school? is there something in particular i should look for (hospital vs. clinic) or should i just apply everywhere? i was thinking about getting on per diem at the local community hospital, since i am not really looking for full time employment at this point. also, does anyone have any interview tips for me? thanks everyone...i really enjoy this site! monica
  8. hi, aren't head to toe's fun? here is a general list of things to include: always think about what your patient's diagnosis is when you are writing up your assessment. this will tell you what is more important to focus on. ex. your patient is on the telemetry unit and hooked up to a cardiac monitor. you will want to say specifially what his HR and rhythm are, what his heart sounded like (S1, S2, murmurs, irreg, reg, etc.) when you do cardiovascular. here is a basic form i follow: CNS--LOC, orientation, pupil reactions, appropriate speech/listening/sight Cardio--HRR, cap. refill, skin temp, color Repiratory--lung sounds, SOB with/without exertion, cough mucus/no mucus Skin--general appearance, wounds, intact/not intact, hair, mucus membranes GI/GU--abd(inspect, BT, percussion, palpation), urine/fecal output(amt, characterisics), drainage from member/lady parts, appearance MSK/Pain--ROM, pain scale, reflexes I&O--intake (what kind? PO, IV) output (urine, BM, blood) Therapies/Meds--IV access, what kinds of fluids/meds and make sure to include baseline vital signs, or any signs that changed following therapies, interventions, activity, meds, etc. this is just a basic form...you will learn to add stuff as you go along. HTH, monica (5th quarter nursing student)
