  1. Nursing is pretty flexible...unfortunately east coast pay rates arn't the best...I make more money traveling, which I understand might not be an option for you. BUT, I bet you could easily double your pay as a traveling nurse (maybe even in your area)...or look into other hospitals, even working PRN in a bigger city that you have to travel to twice a month. Nurses are in demand everywhere...find the hustle that works for you.
  2. Since you have a Iowa multi state license, you can work anywhere within the compact states... BUT since you have changed your primary residency to FL, you still have to go though all the hoops to get your FL license. Thats how it works
  3. I have complained quite a bit...ha I can't imagine that it will be a big deal. When my manager asks how I'm doing I routinely say "Oh you know, just managing all the unrealistic expectations you put on my plate every day". Hospitals are generally ****** corporations that put $ before patients and employees well being. You also have a strong argument. Don't ever stop speaking your mind and standing up for your patients.
  4. You have to make lifestyle changes to better accommodate. Getting to bed asap would probably be your best bet. But if it doesn't work out, its definitely not worth the job if it affects your life negatively that much!
  5. Umm...you're good. If it gets worse...see a doc lol
  6. As far as I know, you are good to go. With this new compact stuff I worked in Florida with my Idaho license. You dont even need to get your FL license as far as I know, at least until you move there...then I think you have to. Check out the compact website.
  7. Ha! Nice, its good that you care. I don't thnk your preceptor will give a hoot. Get ready to remember that you forgot something over, and over again. Make systems that help you to remember.
  8. Agreed. Balances everything out and we work together well...just like in other jobs in all sort of industries...just like its nice to have a woman's touch and/or perspective, it goes both ways.
  9. Hey. Nursing is crazy stressful. Especially your first year. It was for me, and I was a paramedic in Atlanta. Keep at it, do whatever it takes to keep it together...because, it defiantly gets easier....never easy, but you will become a better nurse, its a tough job but a darn good one...hang in there and soon you will be encouraging other new nurses and telling stories of your first couple months as a new nurse. Exercise, meditate, talk to people, stay positive. This too shall pass. (but seriously, go to days...nights are horrible, some people completely unravel working nights...I do too.)
  10. bring some athletic tape and research a a couple supportive wraps. Rolled ankles are super common.
  11. Absolutely not. Dont do it
  12. I always dilute my pain meds...some patients feels the associated nausea pretty quick. I measure it up first to avoid med error.
  13. It was a learning experience. You're a student...those are the mistakes that will happen, just remember to bounce things off your preceptor or charge nurse constantly. That's how you learn...I wouldn't sweat it, and I can see why you make the choices you made. Hind sight is 20/20. Pick up and move on. Forget about it all and you're going to be a great nurse.
  14. Take what you can get! But DONT STOP shooting for the positions you want. Taking a less than ideal position doesn't mean you have to be committed to it...its all part of the hussle. You'll gain experience now, and probably a few good references. Don't ever stop trying for what you want. Use the rest as stepping stones. Work now and keep applying for better jobs. It'll work out.
