  1. Yeah I'm picking EC, Its what I want to do. I've been in contact with two healthcare recruiters, not enlisted shopping center ones. I just cant go ICU right now and Navy wants 6 months experience prior to joining, so I cant job hop. I guess its ER or Bust, I'm 36 with 9 years prior service, so I have some time to wait. But I'm not getting any younger.
  2. I started one I guess, haha. FY 2021/22 Navy Nurse Corps
  3. VA

I always feel like my application was done incorrectly or I somehow failed to provide the correct information. I've had the same referred and nothing after that. The worst was a brand new CBOC opening up where they needed all new staff. I applied, Was an RN and a veteran, Nothing...
  4. Hey all, I've pretty much made up my mind to apply to the Navy as a Nurse. I've been a nurse (LPN) since 2015 (9 years prior Marine Corps), ASN (2017) and BSN (2020). I've been med/surg since the start with floats to other units for a year at a time (EC, Surgical/Trauma, and Ortho). I was told it would be easier to get in as an ICU nurse. That wasn't happening for me around where I live (schedules do not work). So I am starting in the EC in a few days at a large hospital. I am hoping to work for up to 1 year, until Oct 2021 (FY 2022) so my package can be ready as soon the new FY hits. I'm 36 and my time is running out. Any ideas about where to start. I've contacted 2 recruiters, who maintain small conversations with me but no real guidance. Is it to soon to start planning? Am I making a mistake going into the EC to try and get into the Navy in a year or two? I just read today, they are trying to drop 3100 medical personnel from the Navy. That's scary! Thanks
  5. OK, so I just finished my BSN. I have 9 Years prior service in Marine Corps. I have been an RN since 2017, LPN in 2015. I have worked Med Surg since an LPN and currently in Med Surg. The Air Force and Navy have basically told me to start working ICU because there are no Med Surg slots for FY 21. Anyone have any information on this. Navy is my first choice, as ill care for Marines, but Army would be my go to if they have Med Surg slots. I am currently waiting for a Medical Recruiter to call me today.
  6. That is awesome, I've been following this thread since the first post! I'm shooting for Air Force nursing with Army nursing as back up! Just starting my BSN next month. I still have 2 years basically.
  7. Ok my stat sheet. 35 years old 9 years prior service Marine Corps LPN in 2014 RN (ASN) in 2017 Starting BSN April 1, will be finished October 2021. Experience as LPN. 2 Years Med Surg Experience as RN. 1 year ER, 1 year Surgical/Trauma (basically More Med surg), 8 months Urgent Care, 1 year Ortho with med surg overflow. Currently an agency nurse working Rehabilitation Hospital mixing between CVA side and Med surg side, Shifts at hospital with straight Med Surg. I was thinking of going for Clinical Nurse (med surg) because I actual enjoy it. Can i stay Agency all the way up to boards, or should I be in a med surg position when I apply? Should I go for Med Surg Cert while waiting? Add 2 more years to my Nursing Experience while going to school, would this place me at a higher entry rank? Given I comission in 2022? Do we get paid in COT, my wife would not be able to work while I would be gone the 5.5 weeks. While i understand deployments, been there twice in the Corps, she's having a difficult time with this part. I know it's a guessing game, does anyone have insight on deployment rates/ratio for med surg nurse and where I would go? I'd also prefer to be stationed at larger bases with large populations. With that in mind, does anyone have any recommendations for duty stations. I dont mind overseas, I'd rather that be later in my career when my children would be old enough to appreciate the culture. I need 11 years to retire, if I enter at 37/38, that puts 20 years served at 49/50. Could instay in 10 more years? As far as Entry goes, I'm looking for information to make me competitive. I'll be volunteering at a local clinic, I can get recommendations from Dr's, DON's, supervisors, co workers, and the sort. Would past military letters help, from old Officers of mine? I'm putting together a study sheet of Air Force knowledge and such. I'm sure i have a lot more questions, but this seems like enough for now. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds. Dad_RN
  8. Quick Question for you. I have been searching for an AF Nurse to talk to for a bit. I did 9 years in the Marine Corps, I am starting my RN-BSN in April and hope to finish by October 2021. I have worked Med Surg for approx 5 years, I am wanting to go in as a Clinical Nurse, in to Med Surg. I have studied up on AF knowledge, interview process, and all that good stuff. My wife wants to know how deployments work for Clinical Nurses. Do they go to other base hospitals overseas on a rotation? Or is it truly a deployment like i did in the USMC? Desert and all? She knows deployments are a part of the Military life, she'd just like to get a better understanding of what to expect. Thanks in advance for any information. Dad_RN
