  1. 1st patient I would assess the IV site for infiltration due to the patient stating it hurt. Also if the skin turgor is poor and hypotensive this would lead me to a diagnosis of dehydration. What would I do? Remove the IV catheter and again reassess site. D5RL fluids can cause necrosis from previous mentioned infiltration and also be causing the symptoms of pain, hypotension and poor skin turgor. My nursing diagnosis would be Dehydration and IV infiltration. 2nd patient I would check the foley and confirm placement if it's causing pain and producing little to no urine in bag. Remove foley and if possible re-cath. 3rd patient I would diagnose with CHF. Although Emphysema is more likely because of the cigarette smoking the symptoms do not match. Typically in Emphysema there are little symptoms and sputum is not produced. Take vitals, listen to lung sounds and consider O2 supportive care if necessary.

For me specifically it depended on what the material was that determined how I studied it. For example, when we were doing the Urinary system I could read about it and write it all day but until I drew a nephron on a white board and labeled all the parts individually. I had to SEE it and DO it myself (if that makes any sense). I even named it "Nelly the Nephron" . A&P is tricky because some of it is pure memorization and definition while the other parts are putting a puzzle together. Before you study anything just sit back and look at what it is you are being required to learn and then what YOU think would be the best route to take in order to get that information in so that you can ultimately explain it to someone who doesn't know. I also loved boucing info off my husband and kids to keep me on my toes. Good luck and don't give up! Alicia
  3. Unfortunately writing in any capacity is more subjective then objective. I too think of my self to be a fairly decent writer when it comes to papers and with that being said have also gotten less than hoped on ones I thought for sure I aced. It never hurts to ask where your weak points in her perspective are and like previous posters mentioned if graded off a rubic can ensure all of those bullet points were hit on and explained appropriately. Sometime though if it's not going to drag your grade completely down and weak points are identified you know what to work on for the next time and leave that as it is.

They also have a podcast that I have found extremely helpful and convenient since I'm able to listen to it in the car thru my phone.
  5. Unfortunately I can't speak from experience here but can just give some general advice/support. Like previous poster said I wouldn't get my hope up only because it's deemed at their discretion to discharge you from the program for whatever reasons they have outlined. Even though not all may be true they will find a way to justify it and can simply say a disruption within the program is enough. It sounded as if you said the other student was dismissed as well which sounds like they in their opinion got rid of both "violators". I'm sorry this has happened and would recommend doing like you mentioned and appealing it and best of luck. If anything maybe another program will allow you to transfer into and you can get a letter of recommendation from any instructors that may be on your side. Alicia

Your very welcome :) and Good Luck!
  7. Just curious, what is the scient GPA requirement for your program?

I recently came across it too due to starting nursing school next week and searching for some good resources. They also have a Podcast that I have found to be very helpful with dozens of tips and help on various topics. Alicia
  9. Same here. For instance I'm really only most familiar with reconstituting Rocephin in NS of 500mL bag or more to administer IV route.
  10. I can say with 100% confidence that I have thought and felt all of those things you mentioned above and still do now from time to time. I will officially start nursing school in 2wks and am so scared I don't know what to think anymore. However, I have found that when I start really overthinking I remind myself that I am here because I worked hard at getting here. Nothing I can say or do will prepare me 100% but I had to make a list of my strengths and weaknesses beforehand. For example, I am bad at making myself study so I have set times that will allow me to do this and also purchased an inexpensive desk to put in my room to make me sit in a neutral area and get work done. I find that the couch and bed studying only leads to TV and sleep lol. One thing I learned while doing my prereqs is take it one day at a time and when that task is complete place a check and move on to the next. Good luck with everything and YOU GOT THIS!!! Alicia
