Aesthetics Nursing
Tanya: Try doing a search on the Internet for associations or certifications for Nurses in this field. Mentoring is the way to go for me; I still hold onto a dear friend who was "literally" my first preceptor. Call your local Chamber of Commerce and see what they have for free. When I went in recently, to the small business incubator (that is what it is called in these parts) for consult (free) regarding an issue I was having. I was given a blank Business Plan. If you have Word Office, yo will have Blank Templates to write one up; it really is pretty cool because it forces you to look at options that are mundane but oh so necessary for establishing a successful business. There are other resources in Stickies in the beginning pages of this Entrepreneur Forum. Sorry to all that I off track of the topic of Aesthetics in Nursing. Again, I hope we here from someone to help this poster.

Aesthetics Nursing
Tanya, the only added comment I can make is regarding the Chamber of Commerce. I did join, with my Legal Nursing Business. It is about $300 a year, here in Colorado's small town (approx. 50,000). I get free advertisement, and also to my website. I did get a website. I did hear (again at the Legal Nurse Seminar) that for a business needed to market, that a website is essential' so I guess it depends on how much marketing you do. The Chamber of Commerce and the small business association (this one is usually free consultation) have been very helpful with small business education. I have learned a lot, and have made many contacts, in my community. Have you started your business planning? I hope we hear directly from other Aesthetic Entrepreneurs.

Travel Companies (On Assignment)
I think it is important to review what you want: position, hours, location, size of facility, and to think about the pros and cons of what you have like about what you have done. That said, start your research. If you know where you want to go, and better yet, what area, how lucky you are. You can find out, from the facility, who they use. The more unknowns you are dealing with the more complicated your decision and research. I am sure you know to keep good notes, make a list, etc... There are the big companies talked about here. Try to look into the smaller companies that go unnoticed. I have heard of, and am currently attempting to subcontract with a smaller Agency that really is working on my behalf. Their billable is lower so I can, theoretically, get more extra shifts. The down side is, processing takes longer and the "owner" is pulling shifts and not available 24/7. We are the commodity, we just need to know what we want, and be willing to wait it out to get what we want. Interview, take notes, know the billable Thank you for your kind words It is appreciated.

independent contractor forms for nurse
I do not know of a website but I can tell you what works. Ask the facility that you want to contract with for the form they use. It will have information that is outlined for their state and what is important information that they are used to in their language. I am assuming you are talking about direct contracting with facilities instead of hire as an employee. If so, is this a facility you have worked with before? Sometimes, the Human Resources Dept. is the group to go with or Vendor Services through the facility. I hope that helps.

Keep the conversation on the Bulletin Board
Please keep the conversation on the Bulletin Board. Asking posters to PM you for details does not do this. The purpose of this Forum is maintain an open ended conversations. Encouraging posters to have private dialogue does not do this. So please, keep the conversation on the Bulletin Board. Do not ask posters to PM you for more information. Can you PM posters? Well sure, do that if need be but please do not solicit for this(I regularly edit those posts on this Forum). You may also see posters doing this on other Forums; other Forums, here on allnurses, are handled with subtle differences by the various Moderators. Across the board we do not allow open disagreements of Staff on any of the Forums. Thanks you for your cooperation.

core staff versus travelers
I do not really see it that often. When I do see harshness, it is usually towards everyone and that is a personal issue that person has against other people and Nurses across the board. I have seen, from many Nursing Schools on, the critiquing and striving for perfection carrying over. I do believe perfection should be the goal but it is all in the delivery with how it is accepted. Nurses work in a critical and fast environment and that only compounds and sometimes justifies (IMHO) their harshness (to themselves or to "management"). There are times, even on this Bulletin Board, I see Nurses being unkind to one another. It is unacceptable to be cruel to one another and that is the philosophy of this Bulletin Board. Only when management of the various work environments have the same philosophy, will the behavior be discouraged. I have seen this to be the case in both directions. Managers do not allow harsh and unreasonable undertones of Staff and Staff is kind to one another; Managers themselves are cruel and the Staff have the reputation of being cruel to one another. I have witnessed both of these trickling down behaviors. Now, do we all have moments? Well sure, we are human. Hopefully, we are wise and humble enough to also get beyond that and communicate when the stressors and air has cleared. As an Agency Nurse, I am so fortunate to be able to pick and choose where I work. If a Facility Staff is harsh, I simply do not go back. When you allow this behavior to continue then you are part of the problem (IMHO).

How do you know if Agency Nursing is for you?
It is a very personal preference. You outweigh the pros and the cons. It is not for everyone but has been my preference for many years.

New Grad opens a can of "whup "
moderator note: i have edited the title of the thread to remove a word that is not allowed. it was disguised with a symbol and a violation of tos. here is the area of tos this is referenced within: foul language contrary to popular belief, this is not a public board. you are all guests here. we have the right to edit posts that violate our forum guidelines or remove members at any time. nothing should ever be posted here that you would not say in front of a crowd of strangers. don't post anything distasteful or anything you feel might offend someone else. pg-13 type language in all forums, including off -topic. as many of you know, in addition to the discussions we have for our own benefit, we also present a showcase to the lurkers and fence-sitters (and we do have one lurker per three to four registered users). we do have a word filter which will catch a few foul terms, but it is not the solution nor should it be the solution. using faintly disguised obscenities with creative or phonetic spelling basically shows disrespect for your hosts. we are here voluntarily, including the moderators and the forum admins, because we are trying to maintain a forum worthy of the tradition started on allnurses.com. please show your appreciation for the venue we provide. if it is not deliberate disrespect for the others, then it could be the inability to express a thought without spicing it indiscriminately with foul language. while strong words have their place and time, a public forum in which polite conduct has been requested is not the time or the place for them. thank you in advance for understanding. please feel free to pm me if you have any questions.

Hospital Recommendations in Denver???
I regularly "hear" starting salaried here are poor. Supposedly, because of the beauty of Colorado, the wages for Nurses are low. We shall have to hear from someone in the area about that for new Nurse salaries. Read through these Colorado Nurse posts and see what you can regarding this topic. Hopefully, we shall hear from someone who is a new Nurse. I have been subcontracting and some direct contracting here in Colorado. That is something that raises your salary, increases your pay out expenses, and to me, IMHO, increases your independence. Once you have gained experience, it is my understanding, that PRN Nursing is in the area of $ 30.00 per hour. This will not provide benefits etc. I have heard, at Denver Health, that PRN scheduling can go as high as $ 40.00 per hour with a specialty (I am familiar with Oncology) and working nights with minimum two weekends per month. Any new Nurses care to share their salary info and investigative information on other facilities regarding new grad salaries?

Hospital Recommendations in Denver???
I have worked Agency at Denver Health (and many other facilities there); I would recommend applying there. They can be hard to pin down to get and interview. I am familiar with the Lakewood area of Denver. Nice neighborhoods, easy access to freeway and most of area. It is close to the mountains going west towards Vail. I am sure you will find a lot of nice apartments in the area.

regarding agency??
It sounds like you have worked in more then one facility. Fours years experience is very helpful and a good amount. Sometimes the skills needed for one facility vary a lot with your background. It sounds like you do have experience in Rehab Nursing and this will help you with the post acute Medicare patients. Check in with the facilities you will be working at and try to get an orientation. Often, the better companies will approve a portion of the shift to either go in early or before you begin work (once you get scheduled there). Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Need a little HELP here!!!!!!!
Bonded and Insured is a type of insurance to cover your liability against loss for the patient. There are many issues that need to be discussed. It is not like being an employee, showing up for work, getting training from your company etc... You need to form a business. It is best to start with local support. Please read through the stickies here on the Entrepreneurial Forum; you will find a wealth of information there. Start networking locally and see what is available in your community. There ARE people providing private duty Nursing. There are many areas of Nursing that will allow you to be an Entrepreneur. You need to get some support and write a Business Plan. The above questions you have asked will get answered (by you through your research) when you write your business plan. Good luck and let us know how you are making out.
