Career Reset?
I’m hoping all you experienced nurses out there can help me. I became a second-career RN in January 2020 (after many years as an English teacher)and got a job in a residency program just as covid hit. My preceptor said I did well and after 2 months I was handling a full pt load on a covid floor. It was hard but I was managing until I got put on nights. No matter what I did I couldn’t sleep during the day and after a couple of months I really didn’t think I was safe to practice (accidentally threw out blood one night and that scared me) so I gave my two weeks notice. I got a job in pediatric homecare and worked mostly for a wonderful family caring for a profoundly brain damaged little boy w a g tube and frequent seizures. After 6 months the family moved and I happened to see an ad for covid vaccinators in a hospital and thought it would be a way to get my foot in the door. After a few weeks I was made charge nurse of the large vax clinic (nearly all new grads)and I enjoyed the work a lot. Things slowed down considerably after most of the staff was vaxxed and I was offered a permanent position in occupational medicine, which I took I’m a few months into that now and miserable. It’s nearly all computer work, immunization status of new hires I so badly want a challenging job on a unit but don’t have the 1 yr acute care experience that every hospital (the one I’m currently at included) requires. Also I know that I cannot work nights. Does anybody out there have advice how I might proceed from here? Thanks so much for your time

Running late?, during report stay on topic so I can go home!
I'm struggling with this issue right now. I'm a new nurse, have been on the job for only a few months, but I NEVER get out on time because most of the nurses I give report to either arrive late or claim they're "not ready" to get report until they check on their pts, set up their computer etc., I always arrive 15-20 min early so I can do those things before I get report. I've had some words with a couple of these nurses about this situation--no change. I think I'm going to have to start charging the employer overtime and see if that works. I wish nurses were more considerate of other nurses.

Are Big City Hospitals Really Getting Hit With COVID-19 Pts?
I work at a hospital in Elizabeth, NJ, just outside of NYC. We have been very hard hit with Covid patients for about the last 3-4 weeks. Our ED is busier than many long-time veterans (20 years+) have ever seen it. Nurses in our ICU are now required to work 4 12's every week, all vacations have been canceled, and I personally have been caring for almost exclusively Covid pts for at least 2 weeks. Also, we've had many staff members contract Covid and are therefore short staffed. An ER nurse died this past week. My nurse friends who work at other northern NJ hospitals are dealing with the same things. It's real. It's very very real. I'm living it every shift.

NYU Hiring Process
I just applied to the residency program for Fall '19 grads. The description of the program said we should provide transcripts for nursing classes and science prereqs if taken at another college but the application didn't have a place to do that. Did other people provide transcripts and if so, how? Thx and congrats to those who have been hired!

Rutgers University Fall 2018 ABSN
Got into Newark! My undergrad GPA was 3.8 but I was an English major and it was a long time ago. I volunteered in an ER once a week for about 18 months. I had a 4.0 in the prereqs. Best of luck to everybody and remember the acceptances seemed to go out in "batches" last year.

Rutgers University Fall 2018 ABSN
No, I haven't heard anything yet. Judging by last year's posts, it seems like the first notifications went out by letter. Should make getting the mail more interesting for the next few weeks anyway Good luck, everybody!

Rutgers University Fall 2018 ABSN
Here's what I don't understand. The deadline for Rutgers accelerated BSN is so late--june 1, isn't it--how can they wait till AFTER that to notify people of their acceptance? Won't we need to accept or reject offers from other schools by then?
