  1. Hello. I graduated 8/10/06 from Laurel Oaks in Wilmington. I LOVED the program. Our teachers were the BEST one could ask for. After graduating, the class did go their own ways. Those that I have stayed in touch with seem to be making an income in the range of $17-$21 per hour. It depends what shift you work, if you are PRN, FT or PT, and if you need benefits. Also, location has a factor. If you work more in the city areas, pay is higher. Plus, consider tuition reimbursement & benefits. I got a job with Vitas. I dont make as much as some of the third shift nursing home people, but health insurance for myself & spouse on costs me $130 per month, which includes optical, dental, life insurance and presciption cards. PLUS I get 224 PAID HOURS OFF in the first year. I work every other weekend. This is what works for me.... Good luck to you. I wish you the best. :balloons:
  2. Sorry for the confusion. I mean 3x-4x.
  3. Hello. I just graduated from the Great Oaks School of Practical Nursing. I did a FT LPN class in 44 weeks at the Laurel Oaks campus. I highly recommend them. They have mutiple classes, starting throughout the year. What part of town will you be living in? N,S,E or West?
  4. hello everyone. was just curious as to where the "blessed in size" shop for scrubs? any particular brand wear better than others? any online outlet suggestions? thanks !
  5. I took the PN NCLEX with 85 questions... I also passed a bunch of fluids from mutiple body orfaces while waiting. I felt terrible after & for the following 49 hours till I checked Pearsonvue results & found out I passed. Waiting is the HARDEST thing I have ever done. Even the dog didnt like me. The people her are great. I encourage everyone who is stressed to ask for support here when you need it.

  13. Hello & congrats on considering a nursing career. I also graduated from the Laurel Oaks PN (Wilmington) program Aug 10th. The instructors there are outstanding. I passed my NCLEX this past week. They are supportive & available if you need something. I attended UC where there you are just a face. I strongly prefer the Great Oaks program. Good Luck & let us know what you decide.
  14. i wish each & everyone a great testing experience. we have been given the material we need to succeed. when you sit down at the terminal to test, close your eyes, take a deep breath & clear your mind. when you open your eyes, take the test. the hardest moments are immediately after & then playing the waiting game. i suggest stocking up on 7-up & lots of soft toilet paper. you will be a wreck until you too will say "i am a nurse". believe in yourself. you will achieve your dreams & life as you know it, will never be the same again.
  15. :monkeydance: Considering that you weighed your education against a job, I would hope that employers would understand that you are intelligent enough to know when to stop working & focus on your primary goals. If an employer in your future of medicene does not understand that, I dont think I would be too concerned about working for them. In regards to Target, maybe speak to the previous manager & ask if you could appeal this to a higher person to see if you can be an exception to this rule. Show them your schedule & explain. Ask for something in writing. If they dont understand, give them the same respect they gave you: Dont shop there again. I think you have made a wise decision. Hang in there. You have a heart & it will get you futher than Target's name badge.
  16. If you think about the fact that the baby boomers are entering the "need for care ages" and factor in that the younger generation is more technology driven, I cant see where they can phase out LPN's totally. There will be a tremendous nursing shortage in the next 10-20 years. It will be up to the employers to choose who they want to hire. RN vs LPN is a cost factor, but also consider the number of people who sue medical facilities each day. I would think the acute care centers might prefer RNs but as insurance companies cut expenses, I can only wonder if LPNs will re-enter that field. Only time will tell.
  17. CONGRATS To you nursemommy. You are the best!!! :balloons:
  18. I took the NCLEX PN on Friday. I am also second guessing myself. This wait time is killing me, but the forum here helps. You guys out here are great. Hang in here Dannysgirl. Your life is all about to change. Add-on: I too just got my results. I also passed. You can get them online at Pearsonvue.com for $7.95 if your state is set up for this. My results came Sunday afternoon.
  19. How did you check your score may I ask? Plus, what day did you test on? I tested on this Friday. I am so sick to my stomach with a migraine. I cant take this much more. So nervous. Congrats to you. You should be proud NURSE.:studyowl:
