ANY Case Managers at United Health?
I worked as a CM @ UHC. Then moved up the ranks ( I got out) until I was in a massive layoff ( our jobs really were just a layer) Compared to many companies the pay is okay, you do get an extra week of PTO off for being clinical. They are generous with PTO. I had 28 days and could borrow or buy out a week of PTO. I always bought out. It all depends on your stats, your leadership, and if you are apart of the “club”. I was always apart of the “club” in CM because of my performance. I saw the stats, the dialed coming and moved up and out. in my next positions I ended up making 6 figures in other companies and realized UHC is organized and has a pretty good culture. I moved to a another position to get a good culture without being micromanaged. I took a significant pay cut to work with nice people and less pressure.

Recent hiree - Do I need manager's permission to apply for Dream Job?
Work your 6 months..then apply for the other position. If you get an interview..then tell your manager. Most companies require you to tell your current manager before an interview ..in some companies you can put that off for a 2nd interview if you have a screening interview. Tell the new manager that you really want to work in her unit and after you fulfill your 6 month obligation you will reach out to her. Some bad managers will write up those who want to transfer or prevent them from leaving as many companies/hospitals have a policy that you cannot transfer. You need to look out for yourself. No one else will not in this economy where there are many waiting for your job and your manager can use that against you. I've been an RN for over 30 years....watch out for yourself.

ANY Case Managers at United Health?
What department are you interviewing for that you do field visits? Is it for medicare?

Can't believe the difficulty hiring CMs
Tried to send you a PM but your mailbox is full. Is your position telephonic that you can work from anywhere? I am a certified case manager and am considering a change currently.

Fraudulent visits - yes I brought it up!
Why wouldn't you assign this LPN a realistic number of visits and no more? Medicare fraud will land her in prison, maybe others who had knowledge and did not report her

Putting in my letter of resignation today
Good luck. Just went through the same thing. Working 60plus hours a week and no end to it, affecting my health. Taking a break, not sure what to do next as I have been out of the hospital for years.

Do I tell my manager?
Do not share your diagnosis. You are protected in the workplace and do not have to share. If you are able to show you are more available for work then do so. Then you may have a chance for another position. Sharing you are bipolar can only backfire. Not sure why anyone said you could be pulld over for tasking meds for your bipolar, so untrue.

After Nursing: Is There Life Out There?
In the same situation, in my 50's, in a high level administration job and can't continue these hours for health reasons. Before I took this position I wasn't considered for the hospital or even in any other area, too long out, to high up in administration and would not be considered for a position I had years ago even if wanted too, had excelled in my previous position, and would take a pay cut. Not sure what to do. Very frustrating. Do I go back to get my BSN? I already have a BA but that is keeping from being able to apply for some positions. However that doesn't guarantee I will be considered anyway. If I was younger I would go back to school to be a NP, that's where the jobs are BUT I still have children to put through college and after 3 now it would be over 4 years since a doctorate would be required and most programs are moving to the doctorate level I would be closer to retirement, if we had the money to retire.

case management certification for case management?
Most case management jobs require it. I really don't think you can study for it but there are some online study programs. I studied, passed, but not from studying just from my overall knowledge.

ANY Case Managers at United Health?
Be forewarned they have been doing a lot of layoffs. If you make your calls, do your job, engage members it really is not a hard job. Hopefully they will not outsource to the Phillipines like WellPoint. You should be able to work from home after you make your metrics. Starting PTO is 23 days also. You can also buy their stock at a lower rate.

I dropped out. Please console me
It's just not the right time in your life you have identified that you need classroom learning, you are enjoying your life now and like your job. Plus finances are good for you now. Sounds like you should embrace what is good in your life and let this go. Stop and smell the flowers, sound like you are pushing yourself too much and realize it also.

should I include this experience on resume
I wouldn't include it since it was such a short period of time.

Help with ADN-BSN/MSN online programs
I am considering going back for my BSN and have not worked in the hospital for 15 years. I have been on administration for the insurance area but need to get into another area of nursing. Will I have clinicals to brush up on my skills? I am unsure of my career path now. The area is saturated with nursing schools also. I still have kids to put through college and am in my 50's but unfortunately will have to work for quite awhile and build up my 401k plan while my kids go to college. How will a BSN open up doors for jobs? I have a lot of experience but in hospital nursing it is very old. What type of clinicals and can a nurse who has been out of the clinical area be able to pick it up? I did go back to school several years ago for an additional associates degree and did very well but am not going in that direction. I also have a BA before I went to nursing school also. Thanks!

Online programs, RN (BA) to BSN and APN
I'm looking for the quickest program and least expensive online to obtain my BSN and then move to the APN. I see RN to BSN programs and have seen a RN to MSN program but it is not for APN nor is it online. I am in Missouri. I am considering a career change and have been out of clinical nursing for 15 years, in administration for insurance (case and disease management) and cannot stand it any longer. I am looking to return to school. But since I'm in my 50's and have children who will be going to college soon, I have to look at finances and how long this will take to complete these programs. Also, I am seeing some instate programs are only offering the Doctor level progam for nurse practioners. Will a Doctorate be required? I have found the RN to BSN online program ( 1 year) for University of Central Missouri as the fastest at a reasonable price. Do I need to go through a Missouri school? I don't see many choices for myself career wise getting out of the insurance area and would like to have a job that I like. It sounds like NP's are still needed. I don't want to go to school and then not be employable though as new grads are having issues with getting jobs. I need to make a change soon though due to my age. Who knows when we will be able to retire with all of these health care changes.

RN to BSN, the quickest and less expensive
I'm a RN with a BA ( not BSN) that has been out of the clinical area for 15 years and in my 50's. I am burned out working in administrative roles for case and disease management programs for the insurance industry. I need a change but see for some positions I Need my BSN. Also considering an advanced practice program as jobs are available in this area. Since I still have children to put through college and with my age I need to choose the fastest and least expensive program. No school loans as we are contributing to our 401k and the kids tuition is coming up in a year. University of MO in Warrensburg offers a year RN to BSN program online and the cost looks the best, even below UMSL. Anyone know about these programs? In a quandary what to do next since I've been out of the clinical area for so long.

Need advice from hiring nurse managers please!
I like glass door. You need to take some of these reviews with a grain of salt since most people who post might be unhappy but you can at least see a trend, the culture, how interviews go, and salaries You can go to Glassdoor - an inside look at jobs and companies and review companies, salaries, and interviews Indeed.com Best Places to Work | Indeed.com CareerBliss - Search Salaries, Company Reviews, and Jobs | CareerBliss If you google you can find more sites like glass door, just google sites like glass door

Google information about interviewing. There are so many tips out there. Linked In, Monster have good information. You can even join forums for nursing for linked in to learn more about different areas in nursing. You might consider learning more about managed care and case management which can either be face to face/ telephonic/ or a combination of both. Those positions will want 3 years of a basic nursing background to get into those areas. In an interview you are selling yourself. You need to have a good resume and always include a cover letter. Link up to hiring managers of hospitals ect... in linked in. Never provide negative information. Your weakness should be something that is also a positive ie balancing your work life balance. Practice with someone prior to going in. There are so many resources. Find out if they use behavioral interviewing and if so once you learn how to answer in that format you will be able to draw on experiences to draw on to answer the questions. Dress professionally, if you have a jacket wear one, if not a dress or nice shirt and slacks. Be early for your interview, be composed, be confident. Learn to problem solve and be able to show you can think on your feet and are enthusiastic and positive, team player, works well with others.

You might also consider joining linked in and building up your profile. Look at the requirements of other jobs that you would like to explore. If you get into the door for the interview, you really can speak to staffing ratios ect... never hurts to look but make sure before you make a change again, it will be long term. Talk to people, look around, see if it looks like people are happy. Questions would be why is the position open, how long was the prior person in that position ect... Before you interview google some behavioral interviewing questions and know the about the business/clinic you are interviewing for, have some history about the company ect...

Need advice from hiring nurse managers please!
first job 7 months 2nd job 7 months 3rd job (same as first job) 5 months so far couple of things. It never hurts to look, the next place will be wondering but you went back and forth. You can speak to the staffing ratios ect... but do not mention the cliches bad environment or complain at all about the job. If you move onto the other job I would recommend you stay there at least 2 plus years. If you do not get the other job and you don't feel like your license is being compromised I would recommend you stay for at least 1 year. Any position you should stay for one year, but really longer.

United Health Group
I would suggest that you look at companies on the Glassdoor website. That will give you the general feel of a company and salaries. Healthways is another telephonic company that treats their nurses like they are in a sweatshop. UHC is not as bad as that BUT with outsourcing not very stable. I also have heard that things are not that great at Wellpoint especially in the complex case management.

United Health Group
They just did a huge layoff and plan to more. Also depending on what types of accounts you work, nurses are now being outsourced to the Phillipines.

Medicaid case management?
I see it's been awhile since you posted. I did CM for insurance not medicaid but medicaid seems to be more denials and cut throat from what I have heard. I am looking into WC and really trying to see if it would be a good fit. Can you let me know the pluses and minuses and what company you worked for that you did not like?
