The Washington Post compiled data on all the police killings in 2019. There were 1,003 people killed by police. Way to cherry pick a couple of sentences to fit your agenda. The focus of the paper was that there is no evidence that white officers shoot people of color at a higher frequency. They even said, "We find no evidence of anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparities across shootings, and White officers are not more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-White officers. Instead, race-specific crime strongly predicts civilian race." But I guess you can choose to believe the media narrative.

Well maybe the liberal governor, mayors, city councils and police chiefs in California should change the policies there. Or maybe the people should stop voting for these do-nothing liberals who shout "racist" at everyone else but never do anything to help the black community when they are in charge. Please explain why liberal run cities and states have the worst crime and race issues? Baltimore, DC, Detroit, LA, New Orleans, NYC, LA SF are all run exclusively by liberals and all have the worst crime in the country. Hmm, wonder why??

I like how you ignore the evidence presented and then type a bunch of names with no context. Just like in the other thread where you listed a bunch of names and I laid out the explanation for each. Here's the screenshot so everyone can see again how you're not presenting evidence but rather a list of names. I bet if I looked these names up, like I did last time, I'd find the deaths of those people were investigated and deemed justifiable. Of course there are bad cops. Of course people are shot by police unnecessarily, we're human we make mistakes. But years of research and data prove that black people are not systematically killed based on their race.

We all love evidence-based practice right? Well the evidence the Wall Street Journal provides shows there is not a systemic targeting of black Americans. In fact, the evidence provided (links below) show that the number of shootings are less than expected given crime rates. This isn't opinion, this is hard data. They also found that, "the more frequently officers encounter violent suspects from any given racial group, the greater the chance that a member of that group will be fatally shot by a police officer." This is the statement from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Scientists, "We find no evidence of anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparities across shootings, and White officers are not more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-White officers." There were 9 unarmed black people shot by the police in 2019. In one case the suspect was driving at officers and they fired into the vehicle. In two other cases the officers were charged and are awaiting trial. In the others there were various forms of assault on the police who had to take defensive action. There were also 25 unarmed white people shot by officers in the same time period. When you layer in the crime statistics (that African Americans commit 53% of the homicides) from above you see that the number of black people being shot is statistically low. That doesn't mean there are no racists cops. It's doesn't mean there are no bad cops. It just means that the media narrative that black men are being systematically killed by the police is a myth. The data doesn't support that assertion. But the media doesn't care. They need to sow racial, class, political divides among the people so they can keep feeding us media-tainment. Please don't include him on this list. Philando Castille, Ezell Ford, Stephon Clark were shot unnecessarily and charges should have been filed. Please don't exaggerate to make your point, the truth is bad enough without having people like you post fake things to get people on your side. I will agree that unchecked police power is bad. A simple Google search will show thousands of videos of police abusing their power against people of all races. It's not OK. The real problem, that I hope we can all agree on, is that policing needs to be reformed. They have too much power and abuse it on a regular basis against citizens of all races.

Minnesota is a deeply blue state (the last time the state voted red in a presidential election was 1972) and Minneapolis is a deep blue city, the last Republican mayor of Minneapolis was in 1973. The police chief is appointed by the mayor and the Minneapolis city council (see attached image) has exactly zero Republicans. Minneapolis is a Democrat-controlled city in a Democratic state. So if democrats control the state with the governor, the city of Minneapolis & St.Paul with the mayors, the police chiefs and the city councils why hasn't this problem been solved. Maybe the white supremacists are those in the Democratic party?? MN should be the perfect place to fix racism since it is and has been a left wing liberal state for a long time. So explain to me why these liberals, who have been in power for decades, haven't solved this issue? And why should people of color continue to vote for these liberals when they've had decades to fix the issues but clearly haven't?!

Check out this screenshot...for the third time now on this thread I will say that censorship is bad whether it comes from Trump, social media companies, the government or anywhere else. People should be able to put their thoughts into the marketplace of ideas and the good ones will thrive. If someone says something stupid or racists people will recognize that and keep their distance. Or a few on the fringe may join but they'll be branded as stupid/racists, etc by the rest of us normal people who recognize stupidity. But the answer is not to censor people...because who makes those decisions on what to censor...the government? Look how well that's going in Russia and China.

Unfortunately, I think events like what happened to George Floyd happen more than we know. We only see a fraction of them that happened to get recorded. A simple Google/Youtube search will show hundreds, if not thousands, of videos of police lying to people regarding the law, harassing people, physically and verbally assaulting people, etc. The problem is the police feel they are above the law and control people however they want. That's not the case though. They are beholden to us, not our masters. I sincerely hope changes in policing come about because of this. I don't want to come off as anti-police. There are plenty of good cops. But the officers standing around participated in the death of George Floyd by doing nothing. The cops have to make each other better or the citizens will have to legislate it.

Trumps tweet was an opinion. It shouldn't have been tagged with a warning. I may not agree with what he says/tweets but I will defend his right to say it. By selectively "fact checking" tweets, deleting users who say things they disagree with or shadow ban users Twitter is editorialized. And other forms of media (tv, radio, newspaper) have regulations on what they can say and do. Why should social media be any different? Also, Twitter doesn't fact check the leaders of Iran or North Korea. But tell me again how they're un-biased.

Unfortunately inappropriate, fabricated, racist or hateful language comes from people of all political views. If you can't see that you're part of the problem. Watch this video from John Stossel. He's not conservative or liberal but he acknowledges bias and shadow banning on social media. It's easy to say it's only racist or hateful speech that gets banned but that is not the case.

Toomuch, a simple Google search will yield numerous results of conservatives being shadow banned. That's the practice of letting them post but not showing that post to many or any of their followers. I tried searching for Donald Trump Jr a few months back and his name didn't appear on instagram. He called them out on Twitter and it was back searchable a day later. I follow Candice Owens and rarely see her posts in my feed. I have to look her up to see what she's been posting. These are small steps, not outright bans, but they prevent certain voices from getting their message out. My overall point is that this, and censorship, is bad and that we should let all voices be heard in the marketplace of ideas. @heron, I've never heard the term "fuzzy headed liberals." I guess I'm too young! ? Yes, fact checking is different than removing a post. But what happens when the fact checker has a clear political bias like the one at Twitter? Do you think he's going to fairly fact check both sides of the isle?

Everyone with a working brain is appalled by what happened to George Floyd and people want to see the cop arrested and charged. I believe that will happen very soon. That's how our system works. And it's going to work in this case. Imagine if every time something happened we didn't like politically we burned down our neighborhood and looted from businesses. It would be anarchy. There is no excuse for the looting. The riot police were only brought in when the looting and destruction began. The armed protestors at the capitol is a separate issue. I don't recall seeing the armed capitol protestors looting, destroying cop cars or businesses. If you have some video or anything showing that please share. What do you want to happen in Minneapolis? Should the police let looters continue to steal and burn down businesses? Are you really advocating for more chaos? Or are you just upset that peaceful protestors at a capitol in another state weren't met with riot police as well?

I'm not confused at all. I never said the government should take action. I said these media companies are putting themselves in the crosshairs of government regulation by censoring certain political views. Though the government puts restrictions on private businesses all the time. Explain to me why you're OK with Twitter censoring conversations but not AT&T or Verizon. Would you be OK with your phone company disconnecting your call if you said something that opposes the CEO's of Verizon's political views?

We know this virus predominantly kills old people. Maybe just maybe the church could reopen but ask their elderly parishioners to stay home for the time being. The same could be said for most businesses. In MN the average age of those dying from covid is 86 years old. Doesn't matter if they went to church or the marijuana store, it's predominantly only killing old people. The rest of the population doesn't need to be on lock down from churches, or anywhere else, unless you are old or have underlying conditions.
