How do you become a palliative care NP?

    Thanks for all the information!
  2. Hi everyone, I'm posting this question for my mom not myself. I'm curious how one becomes a palliative NP, is it a FNP with an emphasis? I can't find any programs that are specifically palliative care NP. For context my mom has been a nurse (BSN) for 25 years and currently works in palliative care. She really loves palliative and after taking a number of courses including the year long one offered through the CSU system, she became a certified palliative and hospice nurse (CHPN). Her current work situation is crappy, she does a few peoples worth of work and her palliative role is technically unofficial so shes always working so hard to keep it going and being threatended that her "program" will shut down. She works at a large healthcare company in CA and is well payed so she stays despite the issues. She won't make the same money doing a similar job at any other company. I'm encouraging her to look into a masters because she loves the autonomy of home health and her current pay but her situation is unsustainable.

Hi @sc1234, can you tell us a little bit about what the interviews were like? Like how did you prepare and what kinds of questions were asked?

I asked this in the info session this past week and Sergio said basically they strongly prefer 2 pages because they have to read so many and he added that if a paper is slightly over 2 pages, it can probably be editted down. It doesnt seem to be a hard limit though, so if you feel like it's all very relevant than maybe try using 11.5 font? The guidelines are pretty loose so I feel like you could get away with going a little over if it's a really good paper

Anyone else feeling everything going on in the world is making the application 10x harder? I sent my transcripts in early July and found out on Monday they were probably lost in the mail due to the post office error, the clerk resent them as a courtsy but I just got an email that 2 hours after she put them in the mail the campus evacuated due to the fires. I'm just not sure what to do at this point...

I have emailed a twice since July and recieved no response. I emailed once before covid with both the program administrator and an outreach coordinator and got prompt responses. My guess is that this is due to covid, but I agree that it is very concerning

I'm not done yet, I'm planning to do it last but I probably won't use the full character count... I think if you feel you answered the questions there is not need to try to make it longer

How long did it take for the transcripts to come through? I sent mine about a month ago and haven't heard back.

I went ahead and did mini paragraphs, but I think since it's not specified you can do whatever style feels best?
  12. @pinkdoves I know others have said it before but as a mental health counselor (hopeful RN student), I would strongly encourage you to seek professional help. Not only is it very serious to have active suicidal thoughts, but a therapist could also help you in clarifying and exploring if nursing is for you and how to make the most of your career. It sounds like you might also benefit from exploring your self-esteem and bolstering your ability to manage stress in healthy ways. Going to therapy changed my life for better, I learned so much about myself and so many skills that I use to improve my quality of life. As both a practitioner and participant, I can't recommend it highly enough 😁

I'm applying for the psych specialty this year. I would love to hear your thoughts on the process and any tips you have for essay portions as that seems to be the most difficult part? I'm also curious where you ended up going instead? I tried to PM you but I guess I'm not allowed 😆

Hi everyone, I hope the application process is going well for you all. I'm wondering how others are handling the additional background info section? Are they supposed to be like mini essays or like bullet point lists?

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one! I was freaking out this morning wondering if there was something wrong with my account.
