Our DON at the Nursing Home where I work wanted our ideas for things to do for Nurses Week, any one have any good ideas? Or perhaps some cheap kinds of promotional items to give out to the nurses?

I totally agree with Marie_LPN, I do not think this woman should have any contact with anyone's children, including her own. I saw her on the news, eewww! It make's me so mad that this kind of stuff can happen. :angryfire

I didn't have any problems with high water, but the water got into the stores in Pomeroy, OH, just across the river from me. There has been rumors about Lakin closing for years. I think they did close the Colin Anderson State Hosp a few years back. Take care.

Hello barefootlady, I'm working at Lakin Hospital. It's a long term care facililty, we have quite a few mentally ill residents and those with behavioral problems. I work 7p-8:30a. It is located near Pt.Pleasant, and it is a state run facility.

I live in Mason County, we didn't get a lot of snow, maybe 3 inches, but the ice underneath it from the freezing rain/sleet is what makes it bad. I'm lucky, I'm off until Wednesday. Like barefootlady says, be careful!

I have to work Thanksgiving and the night after, I work 7pm to 7am, I plan on cooking the big bird on Saturday.We are bringing potluck to work on the 17th. Now, for our online Thanksgiving dinner--I'll bring a big pot of homemade noodles and 6 pumpkin pies. Dixie

Hang in there, I failed one semester d/t husbands heart bypass surg, then had to withdraw another semester, d/t failing grades, but I hung in there and finally made it through. I know you can do it. Dixie

I called the Board of Nsg after I failed to receive my ATT in due time, they emailed it to me the very next day. I took the Kaplan course ( 4 days ) It helped me a lot. I studied daily until I took the test. The test stopped at 75 questions and I came out feeling for sure that I had failed, but I passed, I got my license in the mail the next morning after testing. Good luck, and study, study, study, just keep doing all the practice tests over and over again.

I will be starting to work in a state run behavioral/nursing home type setting soon. Some of the pts have been in this facility for many years(mental retardation, Down's syndrome) and regular nursing home pts. Do any of you work in a similar setting? There will be 3 LPNs and 10 health service workers working on 4 units (total = 100 pts) I will be the only RN on nights. Any insight?

I just had a SS pt last Tues. evening. She was in severe pain. She was on morphine 2mg q 30 min. basal rate PCA, then she could get .5mg q 10 min. by pushing the button. She was getting NS at 200/hr, and was on O2 at 2L/nc. Also she got 3 tylenol q 4 hrs for temp/pain.This is the first pt we've had on our unit for a long time. I've only been there 3 months, but the RNs who have been there for years couldn't remember ever having a SS pt. (I work in rural WV).

I had a pt last night in with sickle cell crisis, she was getting PCA morphine with basal rate of 2mg per hour, plus .5 q 30 minutes as needed. She also got 3 tylenol q 4 hours prn. This did not help her pain that much. She was my first pt with sickle cell crisis. Her temp went up to 102, her arms and legs were aching. She had an IV going at 200/hr. I really felt sorry for her.

:imbar We did not learn I.V. sticks in nursing school. I need some advice,please. I am really bad at it. Any ideas, websites, or anything that will help, I will surely appreciate. My nurse manager tells me not to worry and that it takes practice, but I am worried. Thanks. :imbar

Vhope, That is so sad. Even though you don't know them personally, you can't help but think things like you said (not seeing snow anymore, seeing his kid's pictures...). Try not to dwell on it. {I had a nephew who committed suicide and it has ruined my brother's life, he is still grieving after 4 years. He is disabled d/t depression, dysfunctional grieving,etc.} The family of this poor man you are talking about needs our prayers. Take care. Dixie
