  1. Actually, I found the answer. I am reviewing another pre test but this one is from Excelsior's website so its gotta be right. The answer is normal saline because tap water can cause a rapid fluid shift and fluid overload since it is hypotonic. Thanks so much!! Have a great night/early morning!! Wendy
  2. Unfortunately you know these little pre exam tests you take to use as study material doesn't say how small of an infant. Is there a difference for what you would use for an infant /child/toddler?
  3. I take my Excelsior NC 2 test tomorrow and I can't seem to find a straight answer to this question... What is the enema of choice to use on an infant? Such as tap water, normal saline etc. I'm totally confused by this cause I've seen both answers come up in my studies. Can someone please help me!!
  4. NascarNurse, Where did you take the CPNE? Do you think it matters where to take it? I have read on this site and the yahoogroups that some places are great and wonderful, such as you said, and the other places were absolutly horrible and very scarey. How long have you been an LPN? Forgive me if you have already told me. And one more question, where do you live? My husband and I had another talk and he really doesn't want me to go back to school at the community college for fear of the money situation. With me having to cut back my hours and not have the money coming in really scares him. So I guess it's stick with the Excelsior program and just get it done!!!! I think thats going to be my New Years resolution. Thanks so much again for all of your kind words and encouragement. It's nice to know that there are people out there rooting for me!!!!:)
  5. WOW, thanks for such great encouragement. I got the goose bumps (which are a good thing) reading your last sentence. I hope I can be as happy as you are with my decision. If I need any help, do you mind if I call on you for extra support or an extra little push? It would be a blessing to complete this program with no hardships at the end. Was the CPNE really as hard and difficult as they say it is? Did you feel well prepared for the CPNE? Thanks again.
  6. I do have all my pre -req's. I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I only need my nursing concepts 1-7 and the CPNE, and I think that is what I'm afraid of most (The CPNE). If you read the post after yours from another member the cost of the CPNE is outrageous and if you fail it, it's even worse. Not that I want to think about failing it but it does happen. How long have you been an LPN? I know I have developed some bad habits, and it will be hard for me to think about doing things the textbook/school way verses the way I do things now. You will be getting an email from me soon (I'm at work right now so maybe later today) and maybe like you said we can be online study buddies!! Have you taken any of the nursing concept exams? I've only made it through the first one and passed it. Hope to hear from you again real soon!! You will be hearing from me!!
  7. No, I haven't invested alot of money in Excelsior, maybe $800-$1000, but not like thousands. I'm just not sure I want to put myself through Excelsior's program. Does anyone on here think one program is better than another?
  8. I'm currently enrolled in Excelsior's nursing program. I've only taken 1 exam in 18 months and I'm not doing very well keeping up with getting the nursing sequence done. My problem is that I'm not disciplined enough to study on my own and the CPNE is really freaking me out (from what I have read about it). I'm seriously considering going back to the community college in my area and just getting the last year over and done with. I've been an LPN for 2 1/2 years in subacute rehab and really want to go on and get my RN. After talking about it with my husband, he is totally against my going back to the community college to finish. He thinks I should just stick it out and finish what I started at Excelsior. I don't think I will get through all the exams and especially the CPNE. I have a friend that completed the program with Excelsior and she told me that it was very difficult. And that she would never do it again if given the opportunity. I'm not trying to say that I want my RN handed to me but I don't want to set myself up for failure either. I feel like I would do much better having to go to lecture, lab, and clinical instead of doing it all on my own. What would you do if your spouse didn't want you to go back to the community college to finish your RN where you know you would be much better off and would do better? Also anyone here have any words of wisdom for me? I need all the encouragement I can get!!
  9. WELL.... I actually passed with a C but it was my third time taking it. I had signed up twice before and with drew before I failed. I wish now I had studied more cause the stuff is very interesting. It's amazing all the "bugs" we have around us that are good and bad.
  10. I'm an LPN with 2 yrs experience in MD working in sub acute/rehab and I make $24.00 an hr. :) It really kind of stinks cause when I get my RN and go to the hospital I'll have to take a pay cut.
  11. Sorry didn't realize this thread was sooo old!!
  12. Dr. Kaiser is awesome. I took Micro with him 2yrs ago and I learned alot from him, he wasn't boring at all. :wink2:
  13. BWMC (formerly North Arundel Hospital) in Anne Arundel County, Glen Burnie pays for your nursing education and then you must work for them for like 2 yrs as an RN to repay them back. Then you are free to go somewhere else if you so desire. I'm doing this with them right now.
  14. I have all the pre req's done, just need to take info literacy and the exams for nursing concepts. Micro is done, thank goodness. I get all my study guides from excelsior's website and I don't have to pay for them. Maybe what you paid for is fancier or something. Where do u live? Someone else told me to schedule the exam first then study, so like you said, you have to study and be ready by the date that you have already chosen and paid for. I have joined the study groups on yahoo and looked at all of the notes. They look like they will be a big help.
  15. Hi everyone, I'm 30 years old and I've been an LPN for 2 1/2 years now, (my how time has flown by.) I'm currently enrolled in Excelsior College although I've only completed one exam so far in one year, I just keep putting it off. I need a swift kick in the rear. LOL Anywho, I'm married with an 11 year old son and currently work in sub acute rehab as a full time night nurse. My goal is to get my RN so I can work in the ER. I've been in the ER as a tech for 5 years and I absolutely love it.
