Please help!

If anyone can I help me at all I would be so thankful!

5 months ago I was admitted to a psych center for OD on Klonopin because I was very depressed and anxiety ridden. Since then I have been doing great and completely turned my life around. But I just found out I have to meet with the board of nursing tomorrow and they said they will be looking at my health records because of what happened. The reason I am worried is at that time I had smoked pot and I'm so scared that I will lose my license over it! I haven't smoked since then! (5months ago)But I don't know what to expect? Can anyone help!? Thank you!

If you have malpractice insurance they should pay for one.

That y I can't afford one I don't have malpractice insurance

Call around using the taana referral service for cost for a consultation at least. It's going to cost you more in list wages, assessments, mandatory treatment, and BoN fees than a lawyer consultation fee would cost. Use a credit card. Borrow from a 401K. Ask family. If you have license stipulations you could lose your job and have difficulty securing a new job in the future. Something to consider.

This is more proof that every nurse should have professional liability insurance of his/her own.

I know you are worried about the pot issue, but really...in my state at least it's the same contract for psych issues as well as addictions issues. Does your state have an alternative to disipline program?

Yes, it does

I'm not even worried about he psych issue anymore because I've been doing so much better. I'm scared to death about what they will do about the pot. I was hoping that they would just check to make sure I haven't done it anymore and be done with it...unlikely I know..

Did you test positive? Did you admit to recent use?

The test is in my medical records where he hospital did a screen not my employer. And no I did not mention it. It was positive.

Please consider consulting an attorney you may be able to afford an initial consultation. The costs of a BoN ordered rehab/ATD program between counseling, consultations, assessments, random weekly drug testing, addictionologist and psychiatrist assessments for a 1-5 year period plus fines & licensing restrictions will be significantly more than an attorney consultation. Add in that your employment options will be limited with a restricted license.

Try and find a local support group, NA or medical a support group (caduceus is one) and start going to meetings now. You are likely to need support as the BoN moves forward.

Good luck.

I already said it was positive. They did the drug screen during my stay at the hospital 5 months ago. I have not taken another one. Your comment confuses me..?
