Google, seriously...

Or a textbook...

Here are some acute transfusion reactions. I'm not going to define them but I am going to list some so you can look them up.

  • Acute hemolytic
  • Febrile, nonhemolytic
  • Mild allergic
  • Anaphylactic and severe allergic
  • Circulatory overload
  • Sepsis
  • Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI)

Here are some delayed transfusion reactions.

  • Delayed hemolytic
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • Iron overload

Dehydration can be assessed by checking the skin tugor. Be sure to check the skin tugor of an elderly patient either on the forhead or sternum where the skin is not as elastic and loose. Also, an accurate intake and output should be performed to see what the patient is taking in and voiding. Specific gravity of urine can be performed to check how concentrated or diluted urine is. Usually with dehydration, the urine will be very concentrated. I hope this helps!

Seriously, by the time you post this and wait for responses, you could have looked this very basic information up in your textbook or by Googling.

:twocents:

Just curious - have you read your textbooks or gone to Google or to a library? These are very basic topics, easily located.

What's going on with you that you came here instead of studying your books or getting to a library?

I wish you the best.

the side effects of a blood transfusion are listed at the very top of this document which you can open and print out. it also includes information about the different blood products that can be transfused:

  • chart of commonly transfused blood products.doc
    • symptoms of a transfusion reaction: flushing, feverish feeling, chills, nausea, low back pain and headache
other symptoms: palpitations (usually when hypotension is present); difficulty swallowing or breathing (possible anaphylaxis); tingling of fingers, muscle cramps, vomiting, faintness (hypotension, arrhythmia, hypocalcemia); muscle weakness, irritability, bradycardia (hyperkalemia when large volumes of older stored blood is transfused)

also, post #5 of this sticky thread contains weblinks to more information about blood transfusions:

dehydration is the focus of the nursing diagnosis of deficient fluid volume. the taxonomy lists the definition, related factors (causes) and defining characteristics (signs and symptoms) for it. this taxonomy information can be found in a number of places:

measuring intake and output:
