Plan B

Anyone else think Plan B will get GROSSLY out of hand? I think alot of 18 years old will be running to walmart every sunday nite!

Also, cant it hurt a woman' s body if she takes Plan b too many times?

I'm baffled by people who think this would be abused considering plan b makes you cramp and have a period. I don't know any little girls or women who want to be flowing and cramping 24/7! I'm sure there could be a very, very, very small minority of extremely stupid and desperate women out there who would try to use it all the time, but most women aren't that brainless nor are they masochists who want to have a period every week.

You can never have any discussion on women's reproductive lives or any aspect of their lives without having a serious, heated debate. Why do people get so nosy and emotional over women's bodies and pretty much everything women do? Look at the debates about breastfeeding, sexuality, childcare, mothers in the workplace, and birth control. It's disgusting to me. Why can't we leave each other alone or atleast be more open-minded and supportive of each other? And all judging other women does is give off the message that others must make decisions for women because they are either too stupid, immature, or just plain incapable of making decisions on what is best for themselves. How can anyone not be disgusted by that?

I really doubt it. I didn't turn into a huge whore when condoms were put into my school like some parents thought I would. Neiter did any of my friends. I don't see why this is so different.

I think it's wonderful that women can buy it over the counter. How and why women intend to use it is nobody's business. If a woman wants to be promiscuous she doesn't need plan B to do it. Promiscuity has more to do with personality and a history of abuse than it does with the availability of birth control.

I will be happy when we can separate biology from morality.

I know promiscuous people and it has nothing to do with a history of abuse. I really do wonder why promiscuous women must be seen as somehow damaged in order to do what they do. Maybe that's just something they enjoy and I couldn't care less what two consenting adults enjoy doing. IMO Plan B isn't any different from the pill, IUDs, or depo provera, etc.

My poor mother and I were talking about this when I saw her a couple of weeks ago. She does worry that Plan B will increase promiscuity. The discussion turned a little goofy when my response was "What's wrong with being promiscuous?". My dad just walked away and said "I didn't hear that!". :wink2: She knows I'm waaaaaaaaayyyy to shy to be promiscuous, but I enjoy teasing her a bit and part of me is serious. I really don't have any moral judgements against promiscuity.

One of the pediatricians I used to work with refused to prescribe any contraceptives for women under the age of 18 unless they brought their mothers with them to the appointment. At first I thought this was terribly short-sighted and prevented young girls from acting responsibly to prevent pregnancy. He then told me that he adopted this policy when he learned that one of his young patients was being abused by a male teacher who "put her up to" going on OCs so that he didn't have to fear that a pregnancy would shed light on their "relationship".

I think this doctor has a very good point, but what about girls who don't have a mother? My sister died and I would hate to see her daughter denied birth control because her father came to the appointment with her.

Im sorry but you have no opinion on what happens to my body period and NO your not entitled to even think you do. Thats the problem here to many people in other people's buisness. If ya dont like the morning after pill then dont use it but dont advocate against it when one, you will never use it and two, there are other women that will benefit from it. This is a topic that will go on and on as long as we women have the strength to argue. In my opinion I am glad its going to be OTC . Some people on this thread feel like women will just abuse the fact they can get this OTC, well I would much rather they abuse the morning after pill then exercise and /or abuse there right to obtain a first, second or third trimester abortion.

I'm not "flaming" anyone. It seems to me that we ALL have our opinions on what other women should do/not do with their bodies. And we are ALL entitled to them.

Actually, yes we do, just as you have the right to have an opinion about anyone else. We all (every human being on this planet) have the right to an opinion about ANYTHING and ANYBODY. You may believe that no one has the right to tell you what to do to/with your body, but the right to have an opinion is something else.

What does concern me, and what I have been unable to find an answer to is this: Will men over the age of 18 be allowed to purchase Plan B? If so, I am concerned about the potential for older men to abuse young girls and then give them Plan B to prevent possible pregnancy.

I take exception to that! If a loving father wants to buy Plan B for his daughter I can see absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be able to do it. And, if the girl has no parents but does have a brother or an uncle who cares about her best interests, he should also be allowed access to Plan B in her behalf. Better that he picks up a prescription for her than going for his shotgun with the intentions of hunting down a varmint and imposing old-fashioned "justice" - as was often the practice in earlier times in Texas.

It's hilarious to me that some of you are pretending that you don't have opinions on what other people do. That's like saying I shouldn't think twice if my neighbor beats his kid to a bloody pulp every day. Or if my dad chooses to smoke even though he is diabetic & has a 95% blockage in his Carotid Artery. We all have opinions on things that don't directly affect us.

IMO abortion is crossing a moral line and I will ALWAYS be concerned about that. We all have different reasons for caring or being concerned.

A couple of years ago, my Dh and I had a birth control failure. I used an EC. IMO I'm glad it will be available OTC if used as a Plan B- meaning you had a Plan A but it failed.
