Pilot program for overseas testing of NCLEX

Official word has finally come out that beginning Janaury, 2005, there will be
three pilot test centers opened. London, Hong Kong and Seoul are the three sites picked on a trial basis. No word yet if the fee structure will remain the same for those sites. You will still need to receive an ATT letter to be able to sit for this exam. Licensure requirements will also remain the same, the only thing that these test sites will do is save you money by not having to fly to the US to take the exam beforehand. :)

That would be great, but from my point I wanted my husband to see a bit of the US as he had never visited (I have been out there 8 times) and would hated for us to make the move for hime to decide he didn't like it. But this pilot test scheme will help alot out who cannot afford to go to the US to sit their exam or re sits.

Yeah thats great - couldve done with that last year when I failed - cost us two flights for a family of 4!!!! Never mind I got 2 holidays out of it...LOL

Serioualy though - this will be much easier for most people. I know a couple of people waiting to do their NCLEX - that will please them :)

But also remember that being from the E.U. it is easy to go to the US, other than the cost. However, for many others to be able to get a tourist visa is quite hard. From Thailand we have been fortunate that to go to Saipan on a Thai visa does not require a US tourist visa and the nurse can go for three days and take the exam during that time. But the trip to Saipan is quite expensive for many of the nurses. Being able to fly to Hong Kong will be much easier and alot cheaper all the way around.

wow that's nice to here, now i am very tempted to wait :) i am thinking about finishing my degree, as with an advanced diploma i only have to attend for a year part time to gain my bachelors. will this affect the way i can apply to the states, even though it's still specialist? that news has really made my day thank you.

You still need the number of approved hours in an approved school of nursing, covering theory as well as clinical hours in pediatrics, mental health, as well as adult. Depends on whether your program will cover everything.

Wow!!! This is great. I don't have to fly to the US just to take the exam. Hongkong is so much convenient for me.

Not sure where you live but the test has always been available in Guam and Saipan. A US tourist visa is not required for Saipan to take the test.

Hi Suzanne!:)

For me to fly to Hongkong is much better as it only takes about 3 hours flight compared to 16-20 hours to the US. That's why I was very happy upon reading your post. Tourist visa has never been a problem to me as I have a 10 years multiple-entry to the US. It's just the long hours flight that I hate because it makes me fall ill every time I arrive at the destination.

that's really a good news for us nurses here in the philippines. i already have my ATT, while selecting Hongkong as my test center in pearsonvue, there is a note that i need to contact and schedule my appointment for an exam over the phone since only test centers inside US can be scheduled through pearsonvue. it is said in the NCLEX candidate bulletin that there is an additional fee of $150 for international scheduling. do you have any idea how will i pay this fee? what will i do if i will pay it using not my own credit card? thanks a lot!

When I paid for mine they would only accept visa or mastercard. Who's credit card will you be using and will it be in front of you when you are paying because I think then that it will be ok, as they will probably ask you for the 3 digit security code.

hi! thanks for the info. it will be my auntie's credit card, now the problem is that she's in US but and she can't be there in front of me when paying. she is willing to give her security code, do you think it would be ok to use her credit card? :)
