Physiology question.

Published

I am currently about 3 weeks from finishing physiology 1. I have a 75.... I'm an A student but have struggled greatly with physiology.

I've contacted my nursing advisor 5 times now, no return call or email. So I was hoping someone here could help.

My question is, since it's beyond the drop date, and I can't retake it at a C (my schools policy is if it's a C or higher you can't retake) should I just let my trade slide further so I can get a D or F and retake it? I fear having a C or worse :( We have another test and the final coming up.

Thank you for your help.

First of all, talk with your professor and see if there's any way to boost that 75 to an 80 at least. I wouldn't try to reduce my grade to a D or F, since many schools look at your overall GPA. If talking to your professor does not work, meaning that even if you do very well on the final and with other class grades, your grade will remain the same, then I would think about taking it pass/fail. If the deadline hasn't passed for pass/fail, it's really important to evaluate how you received your grades (test scores...) and how you will study differently for next quarter. If it is too late to take the course pass/fail, then I'd do as well as I could (there might be some late withdrawal policies that I'd look into) and you could retake the course somewhere else or maybe with instructor or department permission at your school. Good luck!

Thank you! It is passed the drop/add period but I will look into late withdraw. I've contacted advising (not the nursing advisor since I never hear back) and they said I have to just keep my C since it's beyond the withdraw deadline. Hopefully I can get some answers tomorrow. I want to understand the material and learn how to apply it. I'm worried that I'll manage a C and move onto physiology 2 and be behind because of the setbacks in 1. Any way, thank you again!

If you are worried about being behind, I would look on YouTube for anatomy and physiology lectures. You can also look on the syllabus and/or read ahead to see if you'll have any trouble. You might have to withdrawal from all your classes with late withdrawal. If you're really nervous about what to do, call a couple of good nursing programs (even if they are not local) and see how they handle repeat courses.

I would think that since a 75 is so close to a B and you still have the final to go you should be able to pull of a B. Study as much as you can, watch you tube videos and meet with your professor for some help. Good luck!!

I wouldn't drop my grade just to be able to retake the course. The first thing I would do is talk to your professor and tell them you really want to improve. I struggled in the middle of my anatomy class and spoke with my professor. She would show up early to review information with me, explain concepts I didn't understand, and gave me tidbits that gave me an advantage. Not all professors are like that but if they at least know you are trying hard then most would be willing to help. Ask if there is any extra credit. You are so close to a B. With one exam AND a final left I'm sure there is plenty of room to still earn a B or even an A depending on the class grade distribution. Don't give up just yet. You are so close!! Work hard these last few weeks of the semester and you'll feel so accomplished afterward.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been trying to be super proactive and read ahead, do my online work (we have online modules that coincide with our in class lectures) and so on. I'm finding it's comprehending and retaining the information that I'm tripping up on. It's all so new.

I will for sure call around, thank you for that tip!

Thank you! I am hoping I can pull it up. This is my 4th semester and first time struggling this hard... not a fun feelings!

Oh I can tell I've been in nursing school too long... it's hard for me to comprehend a 75 being close to a B after getting used to it not even being a passing grade :)

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Truly. It's so easy to feel all alone in this journey. I am in a constant stressed out state with this class. I want so badly to understand the information and truly be able to apply it. It's frustrating. I'm a first time (and first generation!) college student (I'm 32, this is my 4th semester) and this class is so foreign. I find that I have amazing relationships with all of my professors (friendships, guests at my scholarship ceremonies etc) yet this one professor and I just don't spark. I don't take it personally but it does make my anxiety about this class higher. He knows it's a tough class so at least he understands I guess. I've inquired about extra credit and he was very stern about the fact that he doesn't give extra credit or curve grades. Never mind 16 out of 20 or so of us failing our last test.

I have the online work to finish (it will replace my lowest grade) one test, the final and I believe he mentioned an in class assignment/points available to earn thing. I just fear doing poorly on the test and final and pushing my grade even further down :(

Thank you again. I am so glad knowing that someone out there is encouraging me along! I will keep you posted!

Might as well be failing going by nursing standards! :

:) true :) but in physio, she should be able to reach that 80 for a B :)
