I've read all the old posts about PBDS.
Does anyone have anything new?
Have to take it for a new job during orientation and am really nervous about it, particularly after reading here about all the nurses that didn't pass.
It sure is quiet here today.

Just out of curiosity, what is PBDS?
Performance Based Development System
There is quite a long thread on it.
Just bumping along here.
I wish I could help, but I'm clueless on this one.

I've done the PBDS for OB twice. It's not an impossible test. If you are a new hire at the hospital, the test is generally used as it was designed - to see where you are starting from and see what areas you need further training in. The assessment of your score is based on your experience level.
The exception to this is if you are a travel nurse. Hospitals use this test to screen out travelers, breaking their contract if they don't score at a certain level - very unfair to someone who may have just driven several thousand miles from home to get to the contract!
Thanks.
I've gotten a few tips from the old posts, and am reviewing some med surg
diagnosis.
I have never taken this kind of test.
Very unjust to do to travelers, just out of the blue with no heads up about what is expected or that there even is a test.

Sylv,
I did some "grading" of Pbds's (actually, just screening) Some of the things I was to look at were whether the person got the initial diagnosis correct, whether they listed ALL of the actions they should take and WHY and what EXACTLY (the signs/symptoms/assessments/labs) they would tell the MD if MD notification was necessary (it was in virtually all of those I screened).
Stay calm and imagine you see a real patient/situation in front of you. READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY. None of what I saw was "tricky" it was all very straight forward. Look at the info they give you about the patient.
Good luck,

The old threads (there are several) cover the subject quite thoroughly and there is very little to add.
I have done it for several travel assignments. I did not find it difficult, just time consuming and annoying.

I just found out that I have to take the PBDS for a per diem NICU assisgnment and if I don't pass ... well, no job! As a nurse with pretty severe test anxiety, I am just a little FREAKED out! Help! I've tried finding information, but have not been able to locate anything about the test, (beside what I have read here.) I noticed a reference to "old threads", but am unsure what they are or how to locate them. Can anyone shoot me in the right direction?
Thanks!
