Jan 16, 2008 Is it true that NJ is the highest paying state for nurses? if not what state is?In brownsville, tx I know a staffing nurse working the float pool (w/3 years experience) pulling in $52.00 to $54.00 per hour. Agency nursing in southern texas pays very well, and the cost of living is very low (2 bedroom apt. for $480 per month). Agency nurses around here average about $56-$57.00 per hour, many work 12 hour shifts.
