I'm going to guess California, but if you're talking about pay and cost of living combined. Well, I know someone can refer you to a website that is posted here off and on that shows that. I can't remember what it is right now. Maybe you could search some past threads on this topic.

My link is from December 2005, so it's 2 years old. However, it indicates that California has the highest pay rates for nurses before cost-of-living adjustments are factored in. It also indicates Texas as offering the highest nursing pay rates after cost-of-living adjustments are made.

In brownsville, tx I know a staffing nurse working the float pool (w/3 years experience) pulling in $52.00 to $54.00 per hour.
Agency nursing in southern texas pays very well, and the cost of living is very low (2 bedroom apt. for $480 per month). Agency nurses around here average about $56-$57.00 per hour, many work 12 hour shifts.

Working on a contract in New Orleans can get you around $50/hr.

Looks like New Hampshire is not included in that list, any idea why?!
