Just curious what patient population everyone works with, or would like to work with.

I work primarily with Older Adult Patients (55 and up), but the youngest Patient I've worked with, in Psych, was 3. The oldest was 104.
I like them all. Patients diagnosed with Schizophrenia are endlessly interesting. Patients with axis II diagnosis are the biggest... challenge.
Thanks for asking, smoup!

Work with everything over age of 18. Dual, dementia, psychotic.... Makes for an interesting night to say the least. My favorite are the addicts and those with antisocial personalities.

Adults (18+), mostly those with chronic psychosis of varying degrees. Every now and then I work ICU/crisis.

I work with mostly older people, 60 is a young person on our unit. Sometimes we get younger patients because our unit is the calmest in the hospital.
I love geriatrics! They are so cool!

Wow. You must have the patience of Mother Teresa, Mandychelle!
Agreed!
Actually I don't have that much patience. Just a lot of friends and family with addiction issues and they can usually tell. I was leading recovery group and had a patient ask if I was in recovery too just because how I could relate. As for antisocials.... I have traits myself (per our attending) so they tend to gravitate to me and while it freaks them out that they can't intimidate me they respect me for it and don't pull the stunts while I'm working.

Primarily the adolescent unit (preteens and up), lucky me!
I float to adult detox when the census is down on the adolescent unit.

Do you like adult detox? Preteens? Thank you

Each has its challenges, but I love both. I like working with the teenagers and treating the whole family. A lot of people don't like adult detox because the patients can be very irritable, but I enjoy working on keeping them well.

SMI, dual dx, outpatient, PH, detox, and adolescents... and I did case management which was all SMI. If you can work in a facility that offers multiple programs you can float and get experience with many different kinds of clients .

I work with 14 and up to geriatric in an inpatient acute unit with a wide variety of diagnosis. I like geriatric (love the older population), and schizophrenia folks. I would like to work with PTSD and TBI in the military population, and developmentally disabled.
