Ok this is my 4th week on orientation and my patient load has moved to three patients. i am pretty a fast learner. i work on the med-surg unit and i have an awesome preceptor. My supervisor calls me in her office and of course i think i made a big mistake on something. so she says that she is so LUCKY to have me there. im like ok thank you, you know. then she continues and says she has been following up with the patients i had and asks them "how do you like your nurse". and she said all of them said that i have been great and is very nice and considerate and how i am there best nurse they had ever during their hospitalization. they also said i made them so comfortable. I never tell my patients that i am a new nurse unless i get comfortable with them cause i dont want them to doubt me especially since i look 14years old and im 23. so after the patient says whatever about me, my supervisor then tells them that im a brand new nurse and they say they would never have thought it. I mean that made me feel soo good. Im black and if i were light skin i would turn red all over, lol. That makes me feel soo good and really proves that this is the job for me. and i am achieving my goal, making the patients comfortable in a situation that is impossible cause nobody wants to be in the hospital. so my supervisor gave me two pendants to put on my badge that says red carpet service and she said if someone ask why i have two, its cause two particular patients said some extraordinary things about me. I FEEL SOOO GOOD!!!

How awesome is that! I pray that I can be the same way and really make my patients (and their families) comfortable in a time of need!
GREAT JOB!

I am so happy for you, but not suprised! BSU alumna- CB:balloons:
who is this? i know you, how u know im from BSU???
LOL!!!!
As soon as I saw Alaska and the commentary I knew it was you! Again I am glad things are going well for you. Passed boards and still deciding on where to apply. I am nervous about choosing a facility. I really want a solid teaching facility. I really enjoy it when I hear our classmates are doing well.
Best wishes.

Thats wonderful! I start my orientation in a MICU in 2 weeks and I really hope to find someone just like you to model my behavior after. Got any tips on how to perform as well as you have? Any tips from ANYONE would be great!

That is great. Congrats!! I'm just a week or two ahead of you orientation wise. I have been with different preceptors. I felt really great 2 weekends ago when the night nurse (I worked 3-11:30, was with her from 7 p.m. til end of my shift) asked me where I worked before as an RN? I told her this is my first job, I just graduated in the spring. She said she never would have known that by the way I act, very professional and calm with the patients, organized and on top of things (keep in mind this is a weekend night)
Wouldn't you know the next time I came into work (daylight, weekday shift), I was with a different preceptor, had 5 patients, dealt with the student nurses who had 4/5 of our patients, and felt like a total incompetent fool! (not to mention, taken to task by one of the pompous docs!!) Just when I think I'm getting this down, the rug gets pulled from under my feet. LOL. Keeps me humble I guess!
