Ok Class of 2017, Where are you??

1st week of school done! I know our school is well respected and we have an nclex pass rate of 90% or higher, and yet nowhere near as stressful as some others posted here.

Our nursing manual was available first day of class. In it are the VERY CLEAR expectations, readings, assignments, grading, etc. We only have 4 tests and a final at the end of the semester, plus 10 points allotted for quizzes that can be either pop up quizzes or case studies being collected and graded. So when I read some of you are being tested weekly or twice a week, phew!

The first few days of clinicals are replaced with what we call frontloading, where we learn all our basic skills, bed making, hygiene, ROM, ambulation, toileting, vital signs. Feels like a CNA crash course. We will have Orientation for our clinical facilities next week, then we start patient care the week after! Lecture is still kinda boring /slow going. Orientation, safety, communication, basics. Boring but essential. Next week we are doing critical thinking and care plans. Lab also essentials and basically non skills for the first month, we did brief assessment this week, next week is test taking skills (very smart of them I think introduces and breaks down nclex style questions from the beginning) , week after is dosage calculations and abbreviations, then after that we finally get to medication administration.

We have a general one day pharmacology intensive in 3 weeks.

I've been super organized. My planner is color coded for lecture, lab, and clinicals. I have binders to match, and anything in my phone matches too. I parcel out all my reading and assignments and created a schedule for myself that includes study time.

I'm a little scared for next week because my husband is having surgery.

Are you my twin? That's exactly what I do too! For pharmacology, my folder and notebook is orange. Reminders in my phone and wall calendar for the class readings, exams, assignment are orange. That goes for all other classes.

May I just say, AUGUREY, You are amazing! You are holding together quite well for being so pregnant and taking this on at the same time. That baby will make it harder, but keep you motivated at the same time. Good luck mama!

Took my first quiz in nursing school for Med/Surg and I got an 85 and I'm great with that! 😊🙌🏾

Not sure what kind of student you are, but if they have provided any type of syllabus or pre-reading assignments that will give you a heads up on the kind of prep work they expect. Not so much in the lectures, but definitely in the lab, they expected us to have already looked at the procedure in Perry and Potter, and to have watched the videos that come with the publisher's site BEFORE stepping in to the lab. Best hint I can give is something my friend just said yesterday: "If you're working on schedule you are actually behind!" In other words, do as much prep work (reading, going over procedures, papers) as you can. Good luck!! Keep us posted!

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately, we haven't gotten any information as far as a set schedule or syllabus yet. I believe our first day of class is going to be all orientation so we will probably get the schedule and syllabus then. We have a family night this week that I'm going to attend and I think they're planning on answering questions then as well. :)

Late to this thread but nevertheless, glad I found it! I start nursing school on the 28th, but orientation is on the 24th. I am a ball of hot mess. I quit my job to pursue what i had started years ago. I am so nervous questioning if I can do this, am I smart enough to get thru the rigors of the program.

I am in it to win it, and I hoping to graduate Oct 2017!!!! I love reading how the first few weeks are progressing for some of you keep the updates coming :)

Week 3 over. So far we have had 2 quizzes in Foundations and an exam. In Pharm, we have had only a pop quiz but our first exam is coming up. We have already had our clinical orientation and we start seeing clients next week. So excited and nervous at the same time about this:))) Let's all keep moving forward! We can do this!!!

FNPwannabe123, I start on the 24th! I been a nervous wreck, I start my CNA job tomorrow to get some experience and a little cash in my pocket. I been praying everything lines up, and so far it has.

How are you studying? With so much material that are covered per exam/quiz that's what scares me the most.
