I have been offered a new job (super excited). The new place of employment asked for vaccination records. I needed my records a few years back but I can't remember what I needed them for. I can't find my copy of them, either. So, I called my high school since that was who sent them to me a few years ago and requested another copy. Well, they have misplaced my entire folder!
I called the Dr. office that we used when I was a kid. They destroy all their records after 7 years. (This suprised me. I figured they would at least keep a few important things-like vaccination records.)
I called the county health nurse. I called former employers who might have requested them. I called the school where I did my nurses training. Basically, I exhausted all possibilities.
So since I could not find my records I had to have new vaccinations. I got them 2 days ago and today I have a fever, headache, sore stiff muscles, neck stiffness, etc. All the same symptoms I have when I have the flu or strep throat. Also, my arms are swollen and red, hot and sore where I got the injections. (They didn't hurt at the time of the injections so I figured they were not going to hurt at all!)
So now I am feeling sorry for the babies. No wonder they are crabby after getting their vaccinations! I sure hope this doesn't last long.

They didn't allow you to get titers drawn?

Oh I sympathize! I had to get a tetorifice booster at the schools clinic, and she did a Z-track... but then proceeded to rub it in. (Which hurt like a btw) I asked her if they always do that, and she said "Oh you always do this with injections, you massage it in to help it absorb." :smackingf
Needless to say after I actually learned how to give an IM, I looked back and thought about the bruise I had for two weeks.
I never asked about a titre in leu of the vaccinations-now I am wishing I had! Maybe they just tell you to get the vaccinations again because you can go to a walk in clinic (the community health clinic in town) and they are only $5 a piece.
I tell you what, a copy of these vaccines are going in our lock box so I don't have to have them again!

Our nursing school was SOOOO picky about exactly what needed to appear on the vaccination form: the name, address & phone # of the provider; the full signature (not just initials) of the licensed nurse along with credentials; FULL details of each vaccine, etc., etc. If just ONE of those pieces was missing, the entire documentation was worthless. It was just easier for me to get titers drawn. I got my vaccines in late 70's - my "record" was a little baby book my mom filled out. Half of the vaccines had scribbled nurse's initials, the other half had no initials.
When I have kids, I'll record an HD or IMAX video of each injection and bring a notary public with me to get some hard-core documentation. My kids will thank me when they need it later in life

We had a woman at church who didn't believe in vaccinations (not a part of our faith, this chick was a wacko on a variety of topics -- not a person who'd make a considered, reasoned response to the question, but probably decided not to vaccinated based off of something she read in National Enquirer). Her son came down the measles, and the health department came and gave shots to everyone at church. I was okay the first 2 days, 3rd day I felt like death warmed over, ran a temp, arm swelled up, and actually went home (only missed 2 days the entire 8 years I worked for that company). I remember thinking the same thing, no wonder they cry.....

My husband grew up in middle-of-nowhere Latin America and to his knowledge had never had anything but the oral polio vax. He got the MMR back in 2000 and did fine with that. But when I started working at the community health center, I insisted he get the adult tetorifice series. The poor man ached from head to toe for a week, just from a Td (TdaP hadn't come out yet). As strong an immune response as his body obviously mounted, I was willing to believe he'd never had it, or if he had, he was WAY overdue for a booster.
I never had issues with the Td, nor the TdaP, but boy, I got the HepB series when I was 18 and felt like warmed over cat crap.

You are able to have titers drawn so that you don't have to repeat vaccines. I have titers of my MMR, Hep B, varicella, and something else....that's all the proof your employer needs. Say NO to redundant vaccinations!

Had to get my MMR ouch that hurt, I can't imagine why my son actually laughed through the needle and my DD figured it was neat! I had titters done for chicken pox and hip B even though I had hip B but the health unit had no record of that I had to get tested now vaccinated. I have hip A & B shot sitting in my fridge as we speak...

I had to get MMR before LPN school, and my son was due for his too...we were both crabby and achy for days after. Hubby pretty much shut us in a room together and pushed food in with a stick.
I'm really hoping that my titer levels will be OK when it's time to start clinicals for RN school, cuz that sucked.

They will! And so will countless peds office nurses and people who work in the all-purpose "shot room" of a gigantic multi-specialty clinic! There were always a few parents who were "special" - they forgot to bring their kid's immunization record card every. single. bleeping time they came in so they ended up with a nice stack of yellow cards with one shot or vaccine on each, sometimes on two or three kids just to keep things interesting!. So many cards to get lost and fall on the floor ..:)
I have heard of rubbing the injection site it's supposed to hasten absorption but I never did that and tetorifice is nasty! I'm even old enough that I gave smallpox vaccine which was kind of uniquely cool.
