Off label use

Wow, you learn new stuff everyday! I recently hurt my back, and am on some pretty darn high doses of oxycodone while waiting for my neurosurgeons appt. Enough so I actually took the prescription back to the doctors office to see if it was right, lol.

I was warned by pharmacist to be careful if I took tagamet, b/c it would increase the effects of oxycodone.

So, I looked up "off label uses" for it, and apparently, it does everything from cure cancer, stop sexual urges, treat warts, etc, ect! Who knew? Anybody else know of weird off label uses for OTC stuff?

Whole buncha stuff used off label. Ba-zillions I would imagine.

We had a doc who always gave Zantac (a histamine -H2-blocker)to enhance antihistamines like Benadryl.

lmao!!

yeah..

if you are not a gambler... and you have some restless legs

take a boatload of mirapex

and go to vegas!!

What about mucomyst IV to help protect the kidneys prior to cath lab. It's an off label use.

I also use Mucinex as a fertility med...

So many meds have off-label uses-

I am a woman, and I take an Rx which is advertised as a tx for BPH.

Never heard of the mucinex as a fertility med thing, but we have several docs that order glucophage as a fertility med.

i was intrigued by the mucinex as a fertility med, so i looked it up.

apparently it is used to improve cervical mucus.

Haha...yep, it not only thins cervical mucus, but also decreases semen viscosity. It's a double whammy! (so be careful when your men take it too!!)

Facinating!! Anyone know of any others?

When I was nursing my son I took Reglan to bump up my milk supply after going back to work. I guess increased GI motility and increased milk duct motility go hand-in-hand.

Let's not forget the best one ever...Viagra for Pulmonary HTN!!!!

I love it!
