Hi, I plan on going into the nursing program, but I cannot seem to pass Chemistry! I am on my second time taking it and Im still not passing it! I have got a tutor and have been in my professors office asking for help. What can I do to pass? Any advice! I get so discouraged because of this class! My professors says hed hate to see a good future nurse quit because of this class but at times I feel like it! I just feel like Ill never get there without having to do chemistry!

Sounds like you have a pretty understanding professor. Is this organic chemistry? Are there any "pre" courses you could take to help with it? I know I took a calculus class and was completely lost until I went back and took pre-calc then everything made sense.
Im sorry, actually this is just Intro to General Chemistry. I told my family I feel so dumb because I cannot get it! Im so discouraged, but I know I cannot let this stop me from doing nursing! But how can I not, if I can not pass?

I love this guy's youtube videos - I found them helpful in my pre-reqs. I have a friend who was in a similar situation as you (taking Chemistry again this spring, struggling the second time around as well), and I linked her to these and she loved them - and she just found out Monday she passed this time - with a B!
Just open the Chemistry playlist and find about where you are concept-wise, and then start watching. He is super good at explaining and showing how to work through problems. They're nice, short videos. Very well done.
Sometimes watching someone other than your professor work through problems can really help!

Thanks for the reply juliaann. I have watched his videos also. My friend recommended him to me.

If you have an ipod or ipod (apple) touch. you can look up in the university podcast by subject also. I used it a few times with organic. You can also goto youtube too. Good Luck and dont give up!

Check out videos by the Standard Deviants www.sdlearn.com. They have several chemistry and organic chemistry vids. The skits and props are a little childish and simplistic sometimes, but they really do a good job of breaking down complex material into easy to understand terms. I used their videos on several topics and they really work. I loaned out several of them to others at school and they helped them achieve better grades in political science and biology. The person who borrowed the biology said she had never understood DNA, RNA and their various components until she used these videos. She got an A! I actually used their videos to CLEP several courses and my son takes high school AP courses and has used them to supplement. I wish I would have used the Anatomy vids for A&P. Hope this helps!

Hang in there and DO NOT feel dumb!! I did not do well on my first chemistry course I took my freshman year, so I took a pass/fail option so the © would not affect my cumulative GPA. The next term I took a higher level of chemistry and got an A in the course (I believe I mostly owe that to one amazing teacher). However, chemistry was not required for the nursing school I went to to get my BSN (after all that!!).

Is there a certain part you don't understand? I rememver having difficulty with the conversions from metric, etc.
I guess its just the questions themselves. My professor makes the questions on the quizzes and tests so difficult that people in the upper organic chemistry class cannot do the questions!
