Nursing school help

Published

So, I am a premed student starting college in the fall. I have been debating nursing vs. medicine for a while but I am so lost. when I started college a few years ago I failed my classes. currently my gpa is at 0.5. I feel hopeless but i know I can redo my classes and get into med school(DO). I honestly just don't think I want to spend the next 12 years in school. I honestly want to be someone but who? Medicine is the childhood dream of little girl growing up in a third world country. Nursing is appealing because I can still help people and be done with school by 30. I would go join the military but my health issues got me declined. Even if I could fix the problem they won't take me. What should I do? My mom thinks anything less than college is foolishness. Also my father told me I would become a prostitute and be in an abusive relationship. Truth is I am not pretty enough to be a prostitute so thats that. I feel so worthless. All my friends are in college moving on and I am just sitting and being a dumb piece of ****. I honestly wish I wasn't born but I can't change now. So should I take double my depression meds and just go to college or get the lpn and skip college a few years?

I consider LPN school college. It's post secondary education. And other nursing degrees/programs (ie ASN, BSN) is going to college.

Go to your local community college that has a nursing program and speak to the nursing adviser. You already said you don't want to do the years it takes to become a DR, so nursing it is! I think nursing is better anyway :) You may be able to retake your failed classes and get a grade forgiveness. Make your education your number one priority.

I get down and discouraged at times too, but you really need to quit speaking so negatively of yourself. Surround yourself with positive people and goals similar to yours - getting your educations and participating on here is a start, IMO

I agree with what everyone said. you should study whatever your heart desires and live for yourself not others. If you really want to do nursing,do nursing. Lpn may be a good starting point and if you want to go further you can do the adn program afterwards. And please don't double the meds.

First off remove yourself from the negative environment that you're in. You need limited contact with THAT father. Who says THAT to their child??!! Recognize that kind of dialogue is unhealthy. I don't know how you look, but you are beautiful. Focus on the beauty within and you will eventually see your beauty in the exterior. Physical beauty doesn't matter anyways. And anyone who would judge you based off of your physical doesn't deserve the time of day. Build your beautiful soul and spirit so that you will have the confidence to pursue and succeed in whatever you do pursue. I would recommend baby stepping it CNA to LVN to RN to MSN to PHD. You'll still have the doctor title, but in nursing and in wayyyyyyyyyy less time than medical school. Please consult a therapist for managing your life and mental health. Consult a doctor about your meds. Research self care, gratitude journals and prayer/meditation. There is no reason you couldn't raise your GPA with focus and hard work. Please look into the resources I mentioned and take care!

Please seek therapy first and then worry about school.
