Not to sound like a total idiot, but what is a nursing kit? It is on my list of "school supplies".

Also, what are "pratice/ supervised lab kits"?

Thanks

Well, if you're an idiot, so am I .....managed to graduate without ever hearing anyone utter "nursing kit". I have no idea what is meant!

My best guess for that and/or the "lab kit" might be a stethoscope, BP cuff, penlight, clipboard....?

I'd think that your school would be more descriptive of exactly what it's requirements are, rather than "nursing kit" :uhoh3:

Hi RNgrad2008... just wanted to let you know, my school also requires us to purchase a "nursing kit", without having let anyone know exactly what it is- I'm still not sure, even though I've paid for it, because we were required to send a $ order in, and we won't be able to pick it up in school until the 21st of August. It cost $52.00. At least in my case, it can't be a steth, pen light, etc. because we were required to buy those things with our uniforms. I assumed it was all lab supplies, but then I don't know why you have to buy a lab kit as well. Sorry, I know I haven't been much help! But if you find out pls let me know, I'm curious too!! And WOOHOO to the (future) class of '08!! :)

My school also required that we purchase a Nursing Kit. It cost $207.75 and I have no idea what's included! It will ship directly to the school and I ordered it online at www.courseyenterprises.com

I had to order mine from Coursey Enterprises also- but mine was significantly less expensive- I suppose different school have different requirements, and the kit includes different things?? Now I'm VERY curious about what I paid for!! :)

The kits are customized by the school that's probably why the prices will vary for each school. I'm also very curious to see what I paid so much money for.:uhoh3:

Ok, now I'm LOL because all these schools required you to BUY a nursing kit (which you all did) but they've not TOLD you what's IN them (and you still don't know, after having paid for them!).

Unreal.

My nursing kit for college:

Syringes- 10cc, 5cc, TB

Ampules (gotta practice drawing up medications- dont worry, its filled with H2o and some with crystals so you can "reconstitute" the medication)

Goggles

Alcohol Wipes

Foley

IV Bag

IV tubing

Gown

Sterile Gloves

Thats honestly all I remember, although I know there was more..much more..

Its basically just everything you need to practice your skills. Personally, I thought it was a waste of money, as the nursing lab had everything we needed (for the most part).

a BP cuff and stethoscope will not be included - those are things you will have to buy in addition to your nurses kit.

Our nursing kit consisted of things like a foley catheter, IV catheters, tubing and fluid, sterile saline a trach kit, bandages, tape, ng tube...I forget what else...but it was all stuff we needed to use for lab before clinicals. I think we paid $67.00 and it was bought from the SNA at our school. My class also got a nice bag to carry it all in that most of us use now to carry things back and forth to clinicals.

oh yeah just remembered it also had a bunch of gloves and sterile gloves in there too....

hmm.. still stumped. On my sheet it says that the nursing kit is $50 and the lab kit is $142. I think I am just going to wait until class starts, surely they will tell me.

(edited to add)... why are they so vague!?!

It sounds like some of you are just purchasing your own supplies to use in lab for Nursing Fundamentals. I know the supplies are pricey, and we didn't have to buy a kit, but we did have to repack/reuse things like sterile gowns/gloves for others to practice with (obviously not sterile anymore, but good for practice).

I can't imagine paying over $200 for it though! WOW!

I just purchase my lab kit...about $130. Same contents as previous poster listed-gloves foley syringes-oh you get the idea. P
