Help......I do not know what to do! I graduated NP school in Feb 2016, passed boards in March. Found out in Jan 2016 that I had a complaint regarding a psychiatric patient at previous employer from 2014. I hired an attorney and met for the initial interview with a board investigator. When I apply for my APRN in March, I get no response at all and my attorney informs me that until this is cleared up they will not grant my APRN. I do not think this is fair. I have been an RN for 23 years and they only issue I have is not reporting an arrest in 1999 which they disciplined me for in 2009. I had a job waiting for me as a NP who sent in my supervising physician info before I found out the board was not going to grant my license. SO now my attorney says the board has taken back their offer for discipline because of the supervising physician issue, I never started that job so I don't have a supervising physician. I am so confused and frustrated, my attorney is a rude jerk and I think he is actually hurrying my case more than helping. Any advise would be great.

Are you in Texas? Board complaints in Texas can take forever. It is a horrible process.
Sounds like you need to consider hiring a different attorney who specializes in board complaints.

Nursing boards are too upright...much more than medicine. Unfortunately, you have history so odds are against you.
It took me a state representative, two state senators, amd a lobbyist to get my NP certification in a timely fashion. They were too consumed with sudoku.

I think you need to just push forward, ask GOD for guidance, and take in a BIG BREATH of fresh air. never allow anything, to stop you, from seeing your dream come true. you worked, and studied hard, to get where your at in your life. May God be with you, in all you do.

What exactly is the "supervising physician issue"? You did not describe the nature of the psychiatric complaint filed against you so it is difficult to assess whether the Board's actions are reasonable or not. Either way, you have no choice but to cooperate fully and completely with the Board of Nursing. If your attorney is not communicating with you in a way that you believe is helpful, you need to tell him and suggest how he can better help you. If he is hurting your case more than helping, he should be fired because nothing good will come out of that. It seems that once you get one strike against you with the Board -- particularly when it comes to honesty in dealing with the Board -- they will not give you the benefit of the doubt.

Totally agree. Read about Jonah Odim in Winnipeg. Then see where he is now!
Not saying that career trajectory would necessarily be a good thing for patients...great for the practitioner, though!

It sounds like you are frustrated with your attorney. Any chance someone can recommend you someone with some sort of ties or relationship with the board of nursing?

Seems to me that your failure to report an arrest is a bigger issue than a psych complaint.
