Nurses with Type 1 Diabetes

I'm looking for any advice from nurses with Type 1 Diabetes. I've been diabetic for about 17 years and I have worn an insulin pump for 10 years. I am looking for an tips about basal rate adjustments and managing your own diabetes. I will be starting on a floor and it will require more walking. I'm curious about what challenges I will face because I will be working nights once I am off orientattion. Thanks for any advice!

I don't really think this is medical advice. This nurse with a certain disease is reaching out to others with a certain disease about how they manage their workday. I think another nurse would be a greater resource than a physician. I don't have DMI, but I'm interested as to what some of the other members have to offer about this situation.

I wish I had advice for you too. My mom has type 1 diabetes and she always wanted to be a nurse. She was diagnosed at 12 years old. She was afraid to go to nursing school and become a nurse because of her fears of her disease. I am interested to hear what other nurses do and how they handle their type 1 diabetes. I am trying to convince my mom to go back to school, she is only 53 so I think she can do it!!!

As Whispera said, we really cannot offer medical advice on AN, as it's beyond our scope of practice as nurses. While I can appreciate your need for information, the only person really qualified to teach you how to balance an active lifestyle as a floor nurse with your insulin needs is your own PCP or endocrinologist.
