Diabetes in the school setting

I'm considering a career in school nursing but have been away from the bedside for many years. I'd like to learn more about diabetes management in the school setting and be updated on the latest methods of nursing care. Can anyone recommend any resources like books or  courses?

Does your current employer (if you are employed) have access to educational material? I'm an Endocrinology nurse (I only work with adults though) and my employer offered a CE course on diabetes that went into detail on CGMs and insulin pumps. It was extremely useful. If your employer has resources available I recommend searching under "diabetes". You may find the most use in searching "diabetes in children/youth". You will most likely not be touching their insulin pumps but it would be good to at least have base knowledge on the types and what to do if they fail. It may be difficult to find educational material focusing on school nursing but learning more about the basics would be helpful in the long-run.

Another option is to look into the manufacturers websites for resources. A few different CGMs: Stelo, Dexcom, Libre. Common pumps: Medtronic, Tandem. Insulin: Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, and Sanofi. If you are able to connect with any local reps for the companies they may be able to send you resources and educational material as well.
