Nurses what is your favorite state and why?

My favorite state is unconsciousness, especially if it's in a combative patient

Seriously, I have to say it's Texas: you can find a bit of everything (from cultures to lifestyles to weather) there, and there isn't much that is more impressive than Texas pride. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could.

I agree I admire Texas, it has so much to offer to its community and tourists,travelled there once!!

If you had a choice to live in any state (can be more than one) which one would you considered moving to?

I personally always look at the climate (must be either the mountains or seas or ocean). I give my vote to Colorado although there are few more that I like. The reason I choose Colorado is that I love mountains,people are super friendly there the only downfall is that it tends to be an expensive state

Not a nurse but since this isn't about nursing I figured I could add. I have lived all over the country and so far CO has been my favorite place, WA is my second favorite. CO has better schools and better family town (part I live in anyway) but nothing can match the beauty of the NW in my opinion.

Days like today I don't like CO so much though. It's been snowing since yesterday and it was 5 degrees outside when I went to school and had to run errands.

I do love my city though, I got to visit Co Springs a few months ago and loved that area and Castle Rock in CO as well. Also visited North Dakota last summer and fell in love, but more for like owning a summer cabin.

New Hampshire is very pretty in the fall.

I live way up in New England in little Rhody (RI) and as much as I do love it I think that I actually like Florida more. The weather is amazing and I love being able to go to the beach any time of the year. I do love the typical New England stuff though -- the changing and falling of the leaves and then the snow (except having to drive in it.)

Fl has roaches the size of Oreo cookies!!!! Just remembering gives me the heebie jeebies LOL, I will be in Tampa in Jan but I lived on base in Orlando and was born their, one thing I do not miss LOL

Now i'm only in nursing school but I figured I would chime in. I live in NC and I love it. You get the mountains with snow and then in 6 hrs you can be at the beach in the sunny weather. Each part has all of the seasons you just have to pick which season you want the extreme in. I have lived in the mountains and currently live at the coast and love all of it :loveya:

I was born and raised in Oregon, then moved to CO, OH and GA and I have family in CA and I've been to many other states visiting relatives and friends.

I miss the PNW, and hope to relocate back some day preferably to southern or central OR. I miss everything. Fresh Salmon and Halibut, the wind swept long beaches, the mountains, the high plains,desert the climate and well just everything. I hope to spend my remaining time there. I can tell you my least favorite state to practice nursing in, South Carolina! I noticed no one listed South Carolina as a favorite state to work in or to want to work in. I have been a nurse for 18 years, and have liked practicing in Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia, but have hated virtually every minute I have been in SC. I can't wait to leave, I'm waiting for my boyfriend to graduate from nursing, then we're both leaving. He has seen the poor care nurses have performed in the state, during clinicals, and emphatically does not want to work in this area because of the way the nurses treat their patients and the Nazi like behavior of the state nursing board, they are simply evil.:angryfire In addition, he has seen several transgressions made by the states nursing board against nurses. It has been my experience that the nurses in South Carolina, especially in Columbia, don't care about the patients, or their work. It's obvious, just watch them, or speak to any one who has been a patient in any of the hospitals in the area.

Another reason not to want to move to South Carolina to work is the nursing board (a department of SC LLR) is drunk with power and enjoys taking licenses away from nurses, even if they have to break several state and federal laws to do so. They have had a practice, since at least 1999, of violating laws and Constitutional rights in order to wield their tarnished sword of authority. They have absolutely no regard for laws, other than to quote them to pull licenses, yet they refuse to follow the laws themselves and refuse to afford nurses the benefits of due process. They do not even follow the laws they quote to revoke licenses. Corruption and apathy run rampant in South Carolina. Look at what the Governor of the state has done! With leadership like that it's no wonder why the agencies in the state are abusing their authority, after all the Governor picked the agency heads!

So Please, do yourself a favor and stay away from SC, if you are unfortunate enough to already be in the state, then I'd leave and work in any other state! Get out while there is still time!

i think i would choose to live in tx, it has been as state that i have always wanted to live in and now that i want to be a nurse i hear that texas is a great place for nurses. weather is also a reason that i will look into that area once i'm done with school. currently i live in ohio and its freezing today!!!!!:snowflake:

As someone who grew up in Texas, I can vouch for the great things mentioned about the Lone Star state. I loved Texas and if I had to move from northern Nevada, it would be back to Houston or Austin. The cost of living is so much less than where I am currently, yet I would make the same amount of money. I loved the great food, the diverse culture, the friendly people, the family friendly neighborhoods, and all the lush greenery (things tend to be brown by early summer up here in northern NV). What I don't miss are the huge cockroaches, the mosquitos, fleas, and fire ants. We don't have those up here and I love not having to dip the cats or spend the summer bathed in OFF.
