I am a nurse, LVN on probation DUI related, Currently in RN program set to graduate in a year. I am seriously thinking about starting a support group for nurses that have gotten DUI, Probation, and or revoked because of Alcohol issues. CNA, LVN, RN is more than welcome. I believe we have to join forces in order to support one another through this process of becoming a nurse, regaining licensure , applying for licensure, and continuing education. I eventually want to petition to change the probationary terms and conditions for DUI because the standard terms that apply for drugs & testing should not apply. The more I research this the more I want to seek change. Alchohol and Drugs is two different categories and should be treated as such. I am located in Riverside County and is looking forward to starting the support group FEB 2017. I need time to get certain information in order. I would like to offer AA meetings, reinstatement support, job networking for nurses on probation DUI related with basic restrictions, and most of all SUPPORT. Anyone interested leave comments below.

I wish we had something like this in Illinois.
I am really going to try and start a support system, for nurses. I have not finished my RN program yet but regardless of my outcome I really want to help other nurses. I have not seen a lot of information on here about nurses who are currently on LVN probation, in school and or applying for their RN with past DUI's. I know it is going to be a journey but I will post information on this subject while trying to find supporter near me. Thanks for the comment!!

First, I hope the requirement you are meeting for LVN will be accepted for the RN. When you get your ATT (authorization to test), you may be in the clear. If it is delayed, you may potentially go through another round that maybe for the RN portion.
Second, if you do have to do the RN part you will have to do RN support group there mandatory. You'll meet people with a lot of resources.
For your own peace of mind, wait until everything is clear on your end. In the meantime, meet people, nurses, in meetings or in the official support groups and get their contact numbers. There is a list of support group in CA BRN. Even in Riverside. You may have to contact that support group leader before going in due to the anonymity thing.
I commend you for wanting to start your own support group, but you may have a lot on your plate. Believe, you will meet so many people in those official support groups. it helped me.
Feel free to PM. I know the CA BRN policy, Diversion/intervention/probation well from a prior participant and now in a leadership position.
The contact list of support group leaders in CA BRN has their contact. You should feel free to call them and ask them.

I think it is a great idea and would love to be a part of it! I'll message you.
Thank you, I appreciate this information. I will ask around. I know it will be a challenge starting my own support group so I will wait until everything is clear on my end, until then I will take your advice and try to find a support group near me.
I hope you got the message I replied but not sure if it sent. I will definitely reach out, and hopefully your close in my area. I will keep you updated as I move forward. Happy Holidays:)

Yes!!! That is the best idea ever! I'm on probation too and it is so intense we need support! Mine was for wet and reckless and they lumped mine together for drugs too!

Do you know what happens if you accidentally miss a random drug test for the first.
