I studied ballroom years ago so I could learn the Hustle. Danced 6 nights a week with a regular partner, and a rather large group of fellow dancers like a traveling circus, a different club every night. I had more energy then, and was in great shape from all that exercise. What a perfect release for stress!!
Swing dance is also very energetic, and fun. I guess I like to dance with a partner best. Salsa is way cool, but the music is so LOUD in those Latin clubs.
What a perfect release for stress!!
And good for your heart too!
Consider Salsa anyway, sounds like you would enjoy it!!!!!!!!!
Flamenco was the best-our motto-
Let the floor take the stress

Don't laugh, but a friend actually dragged me to a bellydancing class and I had a lot of fun. It was kind of nice to see people who looked like me (curvy) having a good time, completely unselfconsciously.
LOL! I've taken belly dance lessons since 19 years old.
It was a great stress reduction activity ,let alone great fitness.
Are you still taking lessons? If not, why not???????????
I'm not because my friend left and the studio closed. I'm a little shy to go alone, but they did give me a CD that I still listen to especially in my car. The drums are just great. It was strange for me to be in a place where a small waist and bigger hips were considered a good thing:) But, maybe that explains why I always got hit on by Middle Eastern men....
My next activity is going to be yoga I think.
Yoga is great too!
I use Wai Lana yoga, its nicely photographed-challenging
but no pretzel shapes:uhoh3:

I love salsa!
I've also tried jive, swing, ceroc and a little ballroom dancing. I just love being able to move in time to music, getting fit without noticing it!

I'm into Irish Ceili dancing primarily (sort of like square dancing with some footwork). Also do Contra, Swing (Jitterbug, Lindy, Balboa), and English Country dancing sometimes. Here in Pittsburgh we're lucky to have a lot of great dancing.
Unfortunately since I'm a student, I've had to cut back on my dancing to once a week at most, both because of time and $$$.

Hey just found this thread and wanted to add. I am not yet a nurse, but a pre-nursing student. I have taught ballet, tap, jazz, dance aerobics, balletone etc. for a few years now. I got burnt out and tired of teaching so I decided to pursue nursing b/c you can actually make money at it and not be stuck at a desk all day from 9-5. I have to be moving. Anyway, I plan on continuing to dance. I would really love to learn swing dancing. Absoutely love Benji Schwimmer and his sister Lacy. They are amazing. Anyway, I have mostly taught dance to kids, so I hope to be able to work with children in nursing as well.
