Nurse Extern

Published

I interviewed last Thursday for an extern position in the emergency department at one of the busiest emergency rooms in town. Got the call today and they offered the position to me, which I accepted. I am extremely excited and wanted to share.

Specializes in Emergency Dept. Trauma. Pediatrics.

That's awesome!! Congratulations.

:ancong!:

Extern spots where I am were cut almost in half due to budget issues at all the local hospitals, but I still ended up with my second choice, a step-down unit. So, that's awesome that you got what you wanted! Also, you're at least halfway done with nursing school! whoohoo!

Thanks, congratulations to you to. They aren't easy to come by right now.

What's the difference between intern and extern?

Specializes in Nursing Professional Development.
What's the difference between intern and extern?

In MOST places ...

Interns are new graduate RN's participating in an extended orientation designed for them. (Some people are now using the word "resident" for this.)

Externs are nursing students working in a role designed for nursing students.

Congrats to you! The positions are not easy to come by. I have to drive over an hour for mine but it will be well worth it when I graduate this year!

Congrats! The emergency room is very competitive. I will be starting mine in Tele soon :)

Congratulations! I have been externing nonpaid at a big hospital where I'm from. And I just found out that I got a paid externship with them now. I'm soooooo excited!
