I have been working as a PNP for 1 year. At my yearly evaluation I told my employer that I will be requesting Fridays off when the time comes to renegotiate my contract next year. My employer made it seem like that was a ludicrous request. I feel that if I agree to a lower salary that having Fridays off should not be a problem. Currently I am being paid a lower then average salary for my expertise. My malpractice and health insurance are being paid by my employer. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Are there enough other NPs to cover Fridays or was this an agreed upon day you would work from the beginning? IMO, 1 year isn't that long of a time to be expecting long weekends..

Four days a week is more than reasonable.

You could propose an hourly rate instead of salaried perhaps?

Two of our folks, one PA and one FNP work part time and have renegotiated based on their family situation. They have reduced insurance benefits, reduced PTO accrual, etc..
