hey everyone, I am currently finishing my PNP program, today I was offered a care management positon at 73,000 a year great benifits, and there is alot of patient education which I love. even though my true love is kids, the job market where I am is does not have alot of PNP job available. So really dumb question do I take this offer.,and wait for a PNP job or go back to the hopital. My husband said take the D*** job, it is more than I would make as a hospital nurse and I do not want to return to the hospital help. Would this be considered taking a job beneath my education but in the mean time I have always had the heart for education

If jobs are tight, I would take the job and keep looking.

I live in an area where all APN jobs are tight and sometimes you have stepping stones you gotta cross before you get to your dream job.

I second what traumaRUs says, if you really want out of the hospital, and this job pays better, and you get to do education which you love, then take the job. Just keep looking for that PNP position that you want.

I continued hospital work for two years before I took the my first full time APRN job.

Will the job be related to your APRN certification? Just point to consider: After certification the clock starts ticking on CEU credits and clinical hours needed..

If your NP job market is slow right now, take the job. I currently work in care management and we have several care managers who are also NP's. Some of them work only in care management, and some work as an NP on the side. They are using things learned in their NP programs everyday in care management. Our positions are "BSN required MSN preferred".......so I really wouldn't say that you would be working beneath your education.

Hey everyone, thanks for the feedback. I am taking the position, not only is the pay good, the benefits are great and since I have not worked full time since starting school, it is time to take a load of the husbands pay check and help pay those monthly bills, not that he has complained, but I feel guilty sometimes when I dont have a paper to due and no clinical that day and did not work that day..
