My school has us take the NLN after A&P I and II. ANy info on this exam and how to study? Practice pages, books, references etc...

Thanks

I'm not sure if the NLN RN Pre-Entrance Exam is the same exam you must take, if it is I have some advice for you.

I took the NLN RN Pre-entrance exam for the first time on 2/14/04 received results 3/6/04. I did well, 99 percentiles on all three exams. In general, I would purchase the latest edition of the Review Guide for the RN Pre-Entrance Exam by Mary McDonald. The ARCO and Barron's study guides are useful, but I would focus on the NLN review guide. Divide the book into study sessions and work at it a little each day.

Verbal- Get hold of some SAT level vocabulary books to help improve your vocabulary. I used Hot Words for SAT I. Libraries also have some other good books to improve your vocabulary. Also get a good pocket dictionary and start looking up words whose meanings you are unsure of that you come across in your daily reading.

Science- Make sure you understand Ohm's law. It was not in the NLN review book but I had 2 questions on my exam regarding it.

My school has us take a portion of it that is emphasised in our A&P classes. It is my understanding we do not need to take the whole test. I will look for the books you recommend.

Thanks :)

Specializes in critical care; community health; psych.

The science portion was big on physics and general biology.

There was quite a bit of chemistry too on the one I took

If you know word roots, that'll help you a lot in the verbal section. There were a lot of words I didn't know, but I could figure them out by their roots.

As for the math part...just practice...a lot. Fractions, decimals, algebra, etc.

Specializes in Peds ER.

I have a question. I took the NLN exam and got a 121. I have read people who have posted their results as percentiles. How exactly did you figure out your percentile rank? Is that the score that you got with the results? Can anyone give me any idea what percentile I am in. I am already in school but I am curious, thanks.

My percentile was on the results letter. It had the score & percentile on it.
