Newborn Baths

Hello all. I would like to know at what hour of life you perform the initial newborn bath? Also, if there is evidenced based practice on delaying a newborn bath past 6 hours of life. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also just so everyone knows the op is student so we are doing her/his homework

@#$%^&!

My son had his first bath at about 70hrs old. He was an elective c-section due to breechness and they bathed him on discharge with hubby and I watching to teach us how to bathe a baby.

OP the membership has been very good to you and gave you a ton of information. I always ask the student to elaborate on what their research has shown FIRST before adding to the conversation. Research skills are as necessary as knowing how to take a blood pressure in your daily clinical practice and care of patients.

Believe me, I would not have served the research on a silver platter to the OP if I had thought this was a student question. When I'm in the OB/Gyn forum, I'm not thinking students, I'm thinking professional colleagues who are maybe looking at practice changes for their own facility.

Ditto.

:: confused :: Doesn't it say, "Nursing Student Assistance" at the top of this page anymore?

And to add to Esme's comment, OP, going to an online community, asking your question, and sitting back to harvest the answers does not constitute "research."

This was originally posted in Ob/Gyn....which is how I found it (I hang out there a lot) and, I suspect, how klone found it as well.

Aha, that makes sense. Maybe a feature at the top that indicates "ORIGINALLY POSTED IN .... " would alert us to the intended audience. :)
