Hi everyone! I'm in my last semester of the ASN program, planning on graduating in May. NICU is my dream job but I'm completely aware of the limitations involved when trying to get into that field. I'm told it's incredibly competitive! However, I've been reading threads in this msg board about New Grad Residency options, especially if I'm willing to relocate to work. I've done some google searches and am finding minimal residency options. I was hoping maybe some of you might know of places I can look at and/or direct me to a list of all new grad residency NICU nationwide? Big question, I know! :) Thanks for any and all help!!

Most large teaching hospitals have them and are usually only offered a few times a year. Your best bet is to call the hospital recruiters and ask. We only do ours twice a year.

Here's a list of new grad residency programs in general. Not an all inclusive list, but it'll get you started. It doesn't include my hospital. Not all residency programs will hire into the NICU, in fast most won't, but it'll at least give you some places to look.

Look into children's hospitals especially. Most of them have new grad programs for the NICU.

Vidant Healthcare in Greenville, NC and Vanderbilt in Nashville have New grad NICU residencies (those re two that I applied to). Don't limit yourself to only residencies. The NICU job that I got as a new grad wasn't through a residency. Go on indeed.com periodically as search for " New Grad residency" and it should pull up the hospitals that currently advertise for their residency. Then go to their website to see if they offer NICU residency. Also search for "NICU RN" and look in the description to see number of years experience. Large children's hospitals are more likely to hire new grads in NICU.
Thank you so much everyone! :)

I work in the NICU at Arkansas Children's Hospital and we have a new residency program for new grads. We are just about to start our second round of "residents" and we will have openings for our next round of hires opening 2/16. You can look at the information on the website if that helps!

Thanks for the info everyone! ICUman, unfortunately I'm not in an area that allowed for the NICU opportunity.

If you are willing to re-locate to Texas, the DFW area has a ton of NICU internship opportunities, but can be very competitive since we have so many nursing schools in the area. However, most of these hospitals hire interns 2-3 times per year, with residencies in Jan/Feb, July, and sometimes October (though keep in mind, the applications are due about 5 months before that).
Hospitals that have NICU internships in this area: Texas Health Resources, Parkland, UT Southwestern, HCA (Medical City Dallas Children's, and sometimes some of their other hospitals), Baylor, Children's Medical Center, Cook Children's, and sometimes Methodist. Nearly all of these are Level 3 NICUs. And those are really specific to Dallas, I know there are more hospitals offering NICU internships that are closer to Fort Worth.
Usually each unit will hire 1-2 new grads per cycle. And they will usually list that they prefer BSN candidates, because we do have a mix of BSN and ADN schools here, but there is no harm in sending in your application anyway!
