New to the idea of nursing

Published

Hi all,

I am brand new to the idea of nursing. Was a pre-pharmacy student but just did not want to follow through with it. Anyhow i have taken Anatomy 1 & 2, Microbiology, Chem 1&2 currently retaking orgo and taking physics right now. I was wondering does it matter if pre-req classes are taken online? I wanted to take Nutrition and a Develop psych class online next semester. I looked at most of the school websites in NJ and none of them mention that online pre-reqs are not valid. And also i am having a hard time finding a school that teaches a medical ethics class in NJ. please let me know if anyone knows any. Thanks.

Aisha

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I think it depends on the course. A class like that shouldn't matter too much if it's online, but stuff like your A&P and chem require a lab portion (which I would assume your did). None of the programs I applied for (or was accepted to) said anything about online classes one way or another.

It depends on the nursing program you want to apply to. I did all of prereqs, including the A&P and micro with labs online. There are a ton of schools who will accept online classes, but there are a ton who won't. So you should find out if your program will.

what school in Nj are you applying? I'm searching for accelerated programs here since I have a BA.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

Try looking for biomedical ethics for a class title.

I am going to try Seton Hall, FDU, Caldwell i also have a BA so i rather do an accelerated program and get done faster. Let's see what happens. What schools are you planning on applying to?

Try looking for biomedical ethics for a class title.

i did i guess i'll have to try to call individual schools to see if they offer it.

Specializes in Critical Care, Postpartum.

Is there a particular reason why you didn't want to follow through with pharmacy?

Btw, I graduated from UMDNJ's (now Rutger's) Accelerated BSN program in 2012. I printed out all the prerequisites required for each of the colleges and chose the one with the least amount of prereqs, which was UMDNJ/Rutgers.

I'm looking at Rutgers, seton hall and Thomas Edison. I'm just beginning my prerequisites at MCC so I'll apply in 2015. I'm excited for my new career change and just hoping it all works out.

My dad really wanted me to do pharmacy. I've been working at Walgreens for 6 years not and it's just not something i see myself doing forever. I love helping people and think that Nursing would be something that i would enjoy.

And i plan on doing that looking at all the colleges that have the least pre-reqs i only have to take i think two or three more classes nutrition and developmental psych- lifespan and medical ethics so im planning on taking them all in the spring semester.

Thanks i am going to look into the Rutgers Accelerated BSN. Do you mind me asking what your gpa was when you applied?

Good luck to the new career change. :shy:

I hope my career change goes smoothly as well. Just nervous about getting in.
