Howdy!
I am graduating in May 2006 with my BSN and am looking around the country at large hospitals for critical care training programs that you know of, or have experience with. I am looking for find out what are some of the more formal programs at the larger hospitals (trauma centers, acedemic university sites, top hospitals) that you may know of. So far I have researched Parkland in Dallas, 6-8 month program at Massuchucettes General Hospital, Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. I am really looking for other programs that offer a great orientation program for new grads in the ICU. Any suggestions or comments about what program you are in would be extremely helpful as I am just looking for the best ICU training that might be available after graduation. Thanks!

I believe duke has one at least the last time I checked. Call the recruiter there. Go on the website and I think the number is there.

Is there a certain state or city you really want to go to? I would suggest researching I know that in dayton, Ohio (of course no one really wants to come here) I think all of the hospital have an ICU internship program as well as ER oops old school the ED. :)
DUKE is awesome. Expensive place to live...but awesome school for nursing and working as nurse in R/D and Chapel Hill.
Thanks for the reply....I tried calling duke two weeks ago and left 2 messages for the recruiters, as well as an email. I haven't heard anything back yet though. What do you know about DUKE's program?
Thanks for all the replies! Keep them coming!

Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Although a lot of my graduating class (April 2005) is working there. They may have taken all the jobs. LOL.

Try the Cleveland Clinic. Good hospital, if you don't mind midwestern winters.

i am from cleveland and talked to many nurses at the cleveland clinic who hated their jobs there...of course there are many nurses that would hate their job anywhere, but that is something to consider. i relocated to columbus to osu medical center and was accepted to the critical care nursing internship program, which is a longer orientation/classroom experience where they pretty much pay you to reteach you a lot of the things you learned in your very short critical care clinical. it has been wonderful for me; i would not have been ready to be a new grad in critical care without it i dont think. the extra support is really helpful. check it out if you are intersted in ohio, or pm me for more info.
