New Director

Our new director screams and yells at people like a psycho. She yelled at our very sweet secretary for telling someone that we hired a new CNA. So now our very much loved and treasured secretary is trying to transfer out. She also yelled and screamed like a psycho to our MSW and she has been having night terrors since the horrible episode with jerk director.

How do you handle someone like this? I am thinking of leaving this place and go back to my old job that my old boss promised I could come back anytime. I love the work that I do but I am not liking the changes and the psychotic tendencies of the director. We lost our manager because of the new director yesterday. Grrr!

This person is not going to change overnight, so you might be better off going back to your old job. When enough people leave because of her behavior, her supervisors will eventually deal with her problems. No sense in disturbing your own health and peace of mind because of her.

Is other management aware of this behavior? Good luck to you all.

Does your facility have a Risk Management department? When a supervisor's behavior is out of line, I try to address it first with them and then start writing detailed, factual incident reports. These reports go straight to Legal, then to RM. You can write them anonymously or you can sign your name.

If you don't have a RM dept, then try to transfer out.

Avoidance? Flying under her radar? Are the weekends and nights a possibility while you update your resume and check out job openings?

This will buy you time to see if the new boss calms down and things get better, or whether you really need to leave.

There is no"flying under the radar". This person is on a power trip.

Upper management will figure it out.. sooner or later. Usually... later.

Ignore it... if the psycho comes towards you... document, document and document.

Is there a grievance process and a union in the picture? They MAY help protect you.

I would still be looking to get out.
