Hello fellow healthcare professionals:
I need to write a 5-10 page paper on an issue (problem)that presents itself in our line of work. I'm having troubles trying to come up with an idea that will have a lot of information to back it up. Please help.
A desperate nurse!,

tuberculosis - it was hoped that tuberculosis would disappear by 2000, but unfortunately there are 8 million new cases of tuberculosis yearly worldwide. And between 19 and 43 percent of the world's population is infected with M. tuberculosis
what went wrong?
just an idea

You're probably wanting something really medical. Alas, I'm not your poster.
Instead, I'm thinking about communication. It is of the utmost importance in Nursing.

I've done two reports recently--both found in all aspects of nursing,
1) Access to health care--who gets care, who doesn't (distributive justice);
2) Domestic Violence, many mandated reports are not assessing for this problem, many hospitals have inadequate protocols to address this issue when a postitive finding occurs, the community is woefully underfunded to assist at the macro-level.
On both reports, I recvd very high grades--lots of info on both of these topics. Good luck. ae

Germs becoming leaner and meaner; what the general public is doing to exacerbate the problem ("germ killer" cleaners); are the antibiotics becoming meaner in the constant struggle to stay ahead of the germs.

Infectious disease - SARS, the next flu epidemic.
Nursing shortage- what solutions are there? Why is it occuring (you can look at how 100 years ago women could be teachers or nurses. Now they be pretty much everything)
The effect the Baby Boomers have on health care.
The increasing number of non-English speaking pts. -Should health care be provided in their language? Yes? No? Do people moving to the US/Canada have an obligation to learn English or should we adapt to meet their needs?
I could go on.. there are so many issues out there. Not being from Texas, I don't know what is unique to your area. Next time you are in clinical, ask some nurses their ideas!

I just finished nursing research in May for my BSN. My research topic was falls of elderly in the hospital and the effectiveness of fall prevention programs. There is a ton of research articles on the subject. Best of luck!!
