hello,
i'm planning to take the practice test for nc1 . i have created a user acct. i don't know why it's not letting me register for the practice test.
it says "enrolled and prospective students are eligible to register and take online excelsior college practice exams after registering for the corresponding credit-bearing examination".
now, i hate to be stupid... but what exactly does it mean?
thank you for your help.

have you paid to take the nc 1 test yet. you can only take the practice test after you have paid for the real test.

Cherrybomb, Can u tell me what materials you used to study for this exam?
Akanini,
I bought larends cd from ebay. And I've been using nclex books to study for the tests.
But, I'm not even sure if I still want to do EC b/c it's too expensive. That's $235 a test, plust $60 for the practice tests. I really don't have that kind of money to spend. I was planning to take a test like every 4 weeks but, I dont think I can afford.

If you really think about it EC is really cheap, for the old NC tests they are 4 credits for $235, which is about $58 per credit. That is less than most community colleges.
The only thing that makes it seem expensive, is that you have to pay out of pocket. And that causes a lot of sticker shock.
I personally am blessed not to have to work, and took out a loan to help with the expenses. You may want to think about getting a loan, it really does make things easier.
And while I do understand that most people want to stay out of debt, if you credit is good enough, and you get a loan, the payoff will be more than worth it when you graduate.

What other options are you considering? I think the benefits of having to study at home rather than in a classroom far outweights the costs. At first I thought that it was way too, but I weight the costs and benefits and it really makes a big difference.
Best of luck on the test cherrybomb!!!
Excelsior being expensive??? My LPN course is more than Excelsior!!! Try applying for one of the scholarships they have to help alleviate some costs. Other than that everything dreamnurse2b is saying makes sense in my eyes!!

Ditto what Akinini, BetterME29, & Dream_Nurse2b said. It does seem like a lot of money up front, however if you look at the cost of 1 college course it can change your perspective a bit. I took Microbiology at a local college; $900 tuition, $150 for books, the gas to drive 2X a week to class (30 min 1 way), plus cutting back a day at work to fit in the class. Those 4 credits cost me alot in time and money.
I think Excelsior is about the best deal for a degree I've seen, I still work full time, & I have the luxury of delaying a test if life gets in the way, which we all know most nursing programs won't/can't give. It's keep up or drop out, doesn't matter if your mother is dying, your child is in the hospital or your husband just left you.
I remind myself of this when I start fretting about the cost, because those test fees can be really hard on your monthly budget! Excelsior does have loan programs, I looked into one and didn't think it was too bad, around 7% interest, and I could have borrowed up to $7000 a year, which would have covered most of the costs of the program. Check out the financial aid tab or better yet call and talk to them.
Good luck to you.

What are you trying to do? Are you trying to register for the exams? Is there a problem registering for the exams?
Yes. seams cherry and i have been trying to register for exams all day and its not working. their website must be down?!?!?
I wasn't aware did you get in contact with EC by phone, I thought Cherry was trying to register for practice exams before registering for the actual exam itself. You would have to actually pay for the exam before taking a practice exam
